Alexander B. Cummings, opposition political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has said that the people of Nimba County deserve better healthcare, something he hopes to achieve if they elect him president in the upcoming October polls.

He spoke over the weekend in Sanniquellie, the county’s political capital, after delegates at the ANC primary held there endorsed him as the standard bearer of the party.

Once elected by white ballot, Mr. Cummings thanked his fellow partisans and supporters, and promised them that it if they were willing to work with him and the ANC, together they could build a better Liberia.

He reminded Nimbaians that they were some of the country’s most hard working people, and like all Liberians, they deserve a better life, stating that they should not have to leave Nimba to receive proper healthcare, but should rather be able to remain and be treated in an advanced medical facility.

“You should not have to leave Tappita to receive proper healthcare. You should be able to take care of yourselves and family members’ right here in the county,” said Cummings.

Meanwhile, prior to the delegates’ decision, Mr. Cummings was overwhelmingly welcomed in Ganta, the county’s commercial hub, by ANC supporters from the county’s nine electoral districts.

Shortly after the partisans endorsed him at the Nimba primary, Cummings met a coalition of over 15 women’s groups based in Ganta, who formally endorsed his presidential bid and the ANC, at a meeting in Ganta.

Cummings was also received by several prominent youth, business and civil society organizations throughout the county.

The ANC Nimba County primary for standard bearer was held at the party’s Nimba-Sanniquellie headquarters. It is an event that has taken place in almost all of the country’s 15 counties, where Mr. Cummings has run unopposed and won, Nimba being no exception.

Following a question from an observer during the primary, Cummings drew the attention of the Sanniquellie primary attendees, county delegates and ANC legislative aspirants to the efforts of their past leaders and politicians, and asked the crowd to compare his background to his counterparts.

“The best way to predict the future is to look at a person’s past. If you keep electing the same kind of people, with the same experience you will get the same results. If we want to have a better Liberia, we have to make the right choices and we all have to make choices which begin with the type of leaders we choose,” answered Cummings.

The ANC is meanwhile expected to climax its primaries in Gbarpolu and Bomi counties on April 17 and 18 respectively with a three-day tournament aimed at bringing the youth and elders together.

  1. So what took cumming this long to realize the challenges Liberians face. Is it now that he want to be president?? Liberians vote Wisely

  2. Fatima, everything has time. It is now the right time for Mr. Cummings to make Liberia a better Country that Liberians will be proud off. We have had Leaders who focus points were CORRUPTIONS and NEPOTISMS while Poverty made Liberians the poorest peoples in West Africa. Yes, it is time for a fresh Leader, a man who is remote from the corrupt practices that our Nation experience daily from those in power. We need a better Manager for Liberia. Alex B. Cummings has the best platforms to develop Liberia in this ELECTION. Join the CUMMINGS’ TEAM.

  3. Mr. Gee, Cummings does not need to be president before making Liberia a better place. He is speaking of Nimbians getting better healthcare, but JFD Memorial hospital is without medications and equipment. What is he doing about that? This man grew up in Tippita. If he is really serious about what he is saying, then let him help the people of Nimba at this time with all the millions he so claimed to have. This man is just seeking the Nimabians votes with the same empty promises of the past.

  5. Jeff, I find it interesting that you do not know, personal wealth can not be used to influence ELECTION. Mr. Cummings has done more then any of the Candidates in the Liberian ELECTION. The last personal give-away by the Vice President was in the amount of $5000.00 LD. Sir, please reduce this amount into US Dollars. It is joke! Now let’s check on personal give-away from other Candidates. NONE. I have been following the Liberian presidential Candidates with respect to their personal contributions to the public. Their contributions are repeated empty Talks. Do you believe, the Vice President can develop Liberia when the ROAD leading to LOFFA COUNTY has not improved? I hope you are in touch with reality. Again, join the CUMMINGS’ TEAM. The ANC will be the solution to our Nation Problems.

    • V.G Gbenie; been the V.P, doesn’t make J. Nyumah Boakai the key policy maker. His position was like that of a substitute player. He was only an Observer; watching how the game was being played. As such, he is better equipped to handle Liberia’s problems. V.P. Boakai, have his own agendas to move Liberia further; in the right direction. Absolutely! J. Nyumah Boakai; with his Wealth of experience, is the most/best qualified for the Presidency of Liberia. Let’s not miss this one opportunity in a lifetime, to elect the Honorable J. Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia.

  6. Wow, Alex Cummings just realized that the people of Nimba County deserve a better health care? Why is he now realizing this? Politicians sometimes don’t know when to say these things. Everyone knows that Nimba County is a vote rich county and to get the votes from there you have to come and sweet mouth the people whom he had lived with for many years and refused to do anything for them when he was an executive at Coco-Cola. Nimba County deserving better health care is not just doing this election, it started when he was a young man living in Tappita. Cummings did not even identify with Nimba County after he left there and went to America, but to come back today and act like he feel so sad for the people. Once he gets what he wants, he will be gone.

  7. As I have said before, Alex has the requisite experience needed to develop the economy. My call to him is to put together a detail plan with a timetable for results. I am confident that he can execute far more effectively and efficiently than the mess we have had these last 12 years.
