CHICO Renews Support to Liberia’s Development Agenda


The China Henan International Corporation Group, Ltd. has renewed its commitment to contribute to Liberia’s economy and its sustainable development agenda for transformation.

CHICO’s Administrator Zhao Xiaofei said in an interview in Monrovia that training quality engineers and safety officers as well as project management officers are among some of the company’s main priorities in reconstructing post war Liberia.

He said the company continues to live up to the expectation of the Liberian people and the government which is key in achieving the required level of services necessary to meet the aspirations of a nation in dire-need of road connectivity.

Zhao disclosed that he company is currently being Liberianized with several workers’ of the company benefiting from a number of training opportunities (especially operating earth moving equipment) while plans are afoot to construct a multi million dollar regional headquarters that will serve other West African countries.

Mr. Joseph N. Swen, CHICO Administrative/Media Relations Officer, meanwhile has commented on the Chinese owned company’s numerous contributions to the reconstruction of post war Liberia.

The Government of Liberia on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 signed a US$ 70 million agreement with CHICO for the construction of the Gbarnga-Ganta-Guniea border which is 70 Kilometers, linking Gbarnga to the Guinea border, via Ganta, Nimba County.

The funds for the project was provided by the GOL and the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF) EU, Irish Aid, SIDA and NORAD. The LRTF is a multi-donor trust fund for infrastructure development in Liberia, established following 14 years of civil war.

Meanwhile, thousands of jubilant citizens of Bong and Nimba Counties have commended the Government of Liberia and CHICO for the rehabilitation and pavement of the Gbarnga-Ganta to Guinea border road project and have described it as remarkable achievement of the government.
