The elections committee of the Liberia Football Association has declared open the campaign period for the September 8, 2018, presidential re-run election.
In a release published on Friday, August 24, the committee said it has qualified former LFA vice president for Administration Musa Shannon, and LISCR FC president Mustapha Raji as the two candidates for the pending presidential poll. The two candidates last week completed their nomination process. They were scrutinized by the Elections Committee to determine whether they met all the requirements for the top post.
The presidential re-run election comes after a stay order placed on the April 14, 2018, by the Civil Law Court runoff election was lifted, thus giving way for the re-run presidential election.
The run-off election was between Raji and Shannon, both of whom had obtained 16 and 13 votes, respectively during the first round of election, with Solo obtaining five votes of the 34 votes out of which a candidate is required to obtain 18, which constitutes an absolute majority.
Both Shannon and Raji will begin seeking votes from football stakeholders ahead of the elections. Thirty-four football stakeholders are expected to cast their votes during the re-run.
