President Weah Tours Bali Island for the construction of modern Conference Center

President George Weah on Monday toured the Bali Island, which is situated in the middle of the Mesurado River. The river flows through Monrovia and is crossed by the Gabriel J. Tucker Bridge, built in the 1970s, an Executive Mansion release has said.

The president, according to the release, intends to transform Bali Island into the new Monrovia, commencing with the construction of a state-of-the-art International Conference Center and other standardized structures.

President Weah made the disclosure on Monday during a boat-ride assessment tour of the Island. He commended Liberians for giving him the opportunity to lead the country with a view to enable him transform it.

“While coming up as a child, growing up in Clara Town, on Bushrod Island; playing just across the shores of the Stockton Creek; I often looked into the direction of the Bali Island, viewed an undeveloped tourist attraction,” President Weah recounted.

He continued, “I wondered what was going on there. I did not know anyone who knew what was going on there. There was no road, no bridge, or ferry to get over here.”

President Weah’s vision is to see the Island develop, which he said began from that moment, noting: “From here, I began to see a new city of Monrovia emerging from the ashes of the old city of Monrovia.”

President Weah explained how he envisions skyscrapers, office buildings, shopping malls, banks, insurance companies, night clubs, beautiful lights and magnificent colors on the Island.

Similarly, he “saw a happy and prosperous people, going about their businesses, meeting and greeting each other,” the release said.

Weah intimated that because the dream has never left him, his concern is to proceed with the development of the Bali Island. He said whenever he was crossing the Gabriel Tucker Bridge and had to look into the direction of the Island, he felt a need to develop it.

President Weah acknowledged God’s blessing, which he said has made him into a president and leader, noting: “The Liberian people have given me the opportunity to make that dream come true for the benefit of all.”

He said the 4000-seat Conference Hall will be named after the late Indian Prime Minister, Mahatma Gandhi, while its construction will be funded by the Government of India.

President Weah was joined by an array of senior government officials, including Indian Consul General to Liberia, Upjit Jetty, and a cross-section of government officials at the site.

If the development of the Island does get underway, it would be a major step towards the fulfillment of a number of promises President Weah made to the nation and its people.

  3. Just to correct the info about the great “Mahatma Gandhi” he was not India’s Prime Minister.
He was an Indian activist who was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. Employing nonviolent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. The honorific Mahātmā “high-souled”, “venerable”applied to him first in 1914 in South Africa is now used worldwide. He is called “The father of nation”

He was a freedom fighter who initiated the “non violence war” against the British empire in India and also in South Africa.
He was highly regarded by all the political leader in India at that time, all the political leaders were under his command and influence.
Please read more about him here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi\
