The Assistant Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of National Defense (MOD), David Kadeker Dahn, has returned to Liberia with a Master’s degree he recently obtained from the National Defense University in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China.
Mr. Dahn, who was the only senior civilian staff selected by MOD authorities, was among a diverse group of 106 international students who came from 52 countries that enrolled at the 32nd Defense and Strategic Courses. He graduated recently upon the completion of his prescribed courses.
He enrolled at the university on September 21, last year, and graduated on July 15, this year.
Mr. Dahn had earlier completed a one-year course in Beijing, China. Upon the completion of his prescribed courses, he obtained a Master’s degree in Military Science at the National Defense University.
Prior to obtaining the degree, Mr. Dahn had earlier obtained an advanced diploma in Defense and Strategic Studies at the College of Defense Studies, and an advanced diploma in Strategic Leadership from the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsingua University, China.
While pursuing his course of studies, Mr. Dahn received a Certificate of Outstanding Paper by the Academic Research Department of the National Defense University for a paper he delivered during the 2014 International Security Symposium on the theme, “Diversified Threats in Army Building: The Liberian Perspective.”
Other awards he received included a Certificate & Cash Prize by the Academic Panel of the College for Defense Studies for meeting relevant academic research requirements for a project on “China’s Non-Intervention Principle versus its International Responsibility,” as well as Material Award by the College of Defense Studies for leadership as Cultural Minister and the Material Award by the College of Defense Studies for Team Leadership.
Assistant Minister Dahn graduated in 2001, from the University of Liberia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication and Political Science. He was also a Distinguished Graduate in the functional specialty of Public Affairs, Security Sector Reform (SSR) Training Program; and in 2008, he received a Course Certificate in an Integrated Peace Support Operations Course from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center, Accra , Ghana. He also obtained a Certificate in International Training Program in Human Rights, Peace and Security, Uppsala, Sweden and Siem Reap, Cambodia, 2013, Certificate, Performance Improvement and Effective Service Delivery, the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Topo, Badagry.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dahn has expressed gratitude to the Liberian Government through the MOD authorities for the opportunities afforded him to travel abroad and obtained his Master’s degree.
He at the same time commended United States Government through its Security Sector Reform Program and the People’s Republic of China, also for the opportunity that allowed him to go through his prescribed courses of study.
