Officers of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police (LNP) yesterday arrested a suspected armed robber in Vahwine Community, Oldest Congo Town in Monrovia.
Residents reported to the Daily Observer that at about 3:00 a.m. five men armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the Glasco Drugstore and two other residential areas and allegedly made away with US$300 and other valuables.
When our reporter toured the affected community, he observed that three houses belonging to the same family were looted by the suspected robbers.
A female resident narrated rather sorrowfully that when the robbers broke into the drugstore, they took away a good number of mobile phones and an unspecified amount of Liberian dollars.
Two terrified residents also told the Daily Observer that the robbers, while on their looting spree, were shooting for about 15 minutes, and no one dared to challenge them.
Meanwhile, residents said that well armed ERU officers, who arrived on the scene an hour later, arrested one of the suspected robbers, who they took to the police station for further investigation.
