Cummings: "I’m entering Liberian politics with clean hands, without political scores to settle, free from any corruption charges or allegations..."

The formal launch of the political campaign of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) in Harper, Maryland County by standard bearer Alexander B. Cummings have revived the hopes of Marylanders since the death of President William V. S. Tubman in 1971.
Reports say Marylanders from all walks of life are excited about the ANC’s 70-day campaign, bringing back memories of the ‘good old days.’ Thousands of Marylanders are expected to attend the occasion.

The ANC partisans who are already in Maryland County told reporters in Harper that there will be a “huge three-day program” from Friday, August 4 to Sunday, August 6.

A release said the ANC will on Friday, August 4, formally open its “campaign shop” in Harper, the county capital, and other parts of the county for membership and handing out campaign materials.

“We’ve got an important 15 and a half weeks. We’ve got great candidates in Cummings and Sulunteh and we’re going to put up a real fight here,” said Aisha Dukule, an ANC spokesperson.

On Saturday, August 5, there will be a parade through the principal streets in Harper, which will climax with an endorsement program and the formal launch of the ANC’s campaign.

On Sunday, the campaign trail will be intensified in all of the administrative and electoral districts.

“After the Maryland County launch, we go to the remaining 14 counties,” Dukule said.

Third on the Ballot

Mr. Cummings, meanwhile, has said the ANC would be third on the ballot. Over the years, he has urged Liberians to vote for the ANC for change and a better Liberia. He enumerated what he would do to develop Liberia: On job creation, Cummings said he believes that when the majority of the population is unemployed, there is likely to be a continued security risk in the country because economic hardships may subject the citizens to all sorts of evil motives and ideologies: armed robberies, heightened crimes, health epidemics; On agriculture, Mr. Cummings argues that “we need to feed ourselves…to avoid being dependent on other nations.”

He has expressed deep concern about the high illiteracy rate in Liberia and contends that if Liberia must be transformed, its citizens should also be transformed intellectually and ideologically.

Change is Better

The ANC was endorsed in District # 5, Margibi County on Sunday, where the party’s vice standard bearer Jeremiah C. Sulunteh told hundreds of citizens that an ANC government will bring better change to improve the lives of the people.

Ambassador Sulunteh, whose mother hails from Wong in Gibi District, Margibi County assured Margibians that he will work along with Mr. Cummings to make sure that the sons and daughters of the county will further their education after graduating from various high schools in the county.

The ANC vice standard bearer pledged better healthcare delivery, infrastructural development, and road connectivity, among others, as priorities.

Campaign Retreat

The ANC held a one day campaign retreat at a resort to review and finalize discussions and preparations for the party’s plans and strategies for the presidential and legislative elections campaign. “The retreat is an opportunity for party stalwarts, the campaign team, and candidates to have an appreciation of the party’s path to victory,” chairman Lafayette O. Gould said, to shouts of joy and battle cries from the various groupings of the party, including youth, women, auxiliaries, and representative candidates.

“We are excited about the retreat because it is increasing acquaintance building, consolidating relationships, and enhancing the team spirit for a one round victory,” stated Atty. Yarfar Baikpeh, national chairman of the ANC 2017 campaign team.

On behalf of the representative candidates, candidate Traffina of Grand Bassa County thanked Mr. Cummings for his financial support and also thanked the partisans for the confidence reposed in them as their candidates for the respective districts. “You can count on us for the numbers, we will be there campaigning for ourselves and for the presidential ticket; together, we will win the elections,” she concluded. Mr. Watson Yeanue from Nimba County stated with confidence that the election is already won and inauguration is certain for January 2018.

Addressing the delegates, Mr. Cummings responded to issues of logistics and sent the crowd wild with the announcement of new vehicles, motorbikes and a helicopter. “Liberia deserves better. Real change is coming, and I am determined to be that change that the Liberian people can trust,” he said.

  1. Bravo, bravo, be on the lookout for the resurrector of dead mama Liberia in the name of Hon. Alex Cummings! Liberia, give him the chance to bring you productive leadership and prosperity. ABC, more power to you for a very successful journey to the Executive Mansion come January of 2018.

  2. “Over the years, he has urged Liberians to vote for the ANC for change and a better Liberia”. Who writes such foolishness and nonsense. Cummings just came from Coca Cola in the United States a few months ago to run for President. This man is Johnny Just come and nobody knows him. He will be lucky to come in last place. Let him ask Robert Sirleaf about the Montserrado County Senatorial Elections. “Over the years?”. Nobody knows this man. Takun J is his advisor, ha ha ha ha.

  3. Alex Cummings needs to work on his RESUME for the Presidency of Liberia. For now, he will make a good salesman for our Fine Liberian Coaco and Coffee; just as he did for Coca-Cola.

    • Mr. Freeman, why are you always against positive CHANGES in Liberia? You are not blind to see what has taken place in your Country for (12) years of Sirleaf/Boakai’s Administration. Their corrupt leadership has caused object Poverty, poor Education, poor Health Care and the most institutional CORRUPTIONS in LIBERIA’S HISTORY. It is time for a fresh face to change our NATION for positive LEADERSHIP. YESTERDAY must go. Vote Cummings for President.

      • Gee; greetings! It’s been quite a while… Nice to hear from you. You’ve just given a complete description of yourself. Most of your narratives are nothing but complete fabrications. Such negative attitudes; as yours, will only hinder Liberia’s growth and development. Get Real! Liberia is in a much better shape than it was 12 years ago. Let’s give credits where/when due.

    • Ok, Henry Freeman. Let me entertain your statement that “Alex Cummings needs to work on his RESUME for the Presidency of Liberia”.

Mr. Cummings is a businessman and philanthropist. Oh and he was born in Monrovia, Liberia. I say that because some seems to dismiss this fact. (SMH). But moving on. Cummings studied at Cuttington University College in Liberia before leaving for the United States to further his studies at Northern Illinois University, there, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Atlanta University. Mr. Cummings worked over 40 years in international business. Yeah, “International Business”, degrees in Finance and Economics. Think about that for a second. No seriously, think!

He retired as Chief Administrator from Coca-Cola to returned to Liberia and gave back all he had learned and earned over his years abroad, after a twenty years long career. Think again, no better yet, think of the stock he has in Coco Cola, and yes being Chief Administrator of a large company like Coca-Cola comes with stock options.. I say this to you because, he clearly not running for president because of the Money!
      Think about that!

I mean, what other qualifications do you want him to have before you respect his audacity and tenacity to make Liberia the Mighty Land of Liberty that she was intended to be?

      • R. D; selling COKE is not the same as being the President of a Country; needless to say Liberia. We need a leader like J. Nyumah Boakai. JNB is “A Man of The People, For The People; By A Vast Majority of Liberia’s People. As V.P, JNB have observed and studied Liberia’s problems. As such, J N B have the best solutions to Liberia’s PROBLEMS. You’ve not convince me what so ever. However, your opinion does matter. That’s truth DEMOCRACY. Thanks!

  4. Johnny just come….yes right! The JJC is doing great things for the entire country than Johnny still long like guy like you. Which planet do you live brother? How long will you take to see what is good and best for you? Read this Hon.man vision for the country. Are you resident of a cave where king loin is the dispatcher of the news to the other dwellers from the outside world? Champion for Hon ABC to ascend to the higest seat of Liberia than any recycle politicians. Our nation and people deserve better leadership comes October.

    • Wow! I’ll see if Liberians are really serious about their country. You elect a complete stranger to lead your country? All those who praising Alex Cummings don’t love Liberia. The man has live all his life abroad, returned home a fortnight ago, give few things around the country and want to be rewarded with the biggest price, the presidency of Liberia, my foot.

Who does charity and demand pay back. Where has he been all along when Liberians died from the vices of war, Ebola and other diseases. So the only time he know his country and county Maryland is when elections are coming? This is a shame and selfish. See who on his bandwagon. Jeremiah Solunteh who served in various capacities with the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf administration is portraying himself as a change agent. This is so disingenuous. Politicians look out for themselves, families, friends, the well connected and their donors. This man is nothing, but someone clamoring to continue to amass his wealth and I guessed what he earned and retired with from Coco Cola is not enough. But you know why, Liberians shouldn’t accept whatever monies and material things he hand over, chop anything that come your way and reject him.

      • Abel if you will take your time and used your internet wisely you won’t be writing such thing about Mr. Cummings. Mr. Cummings contributed as much as any Liberian could through his foundation, he made himself present during those period where he was able to maintain all staff at the factory paid them while your government had people lay off and where not paid for those period. Through his foundation he has contributed to numerous of water project through out the country. He’s not a JJC as you see it, just read and you will be knowledgeable next time before you right about anyone. Continue voting for the same people who been using the ideology for the past decade and nothing can change. I think you enjoy the live you living now so you don’t want change, and get this he is a Liberian just as you are.

      • But is he not Liberian? Is Liberia not his homeland? Even you said he returned home. Key word is “Homo”. You are faulting him because he was blessed with opportunity to travel abroad and prepared himself for returning back home to build Mama Liberia up as the ancestors envisioned her might to be. So, Liberians that lived abroad for so many years, are no longer Liberian, in that they don’t count? Stop and think of what you are saying. Please think globally!

  5. The total voting population of Maryland County is below 40, 000. But that’s beside the point. It is the allusion to President Tubman to make the case for Cummings in Maryland County that is galling. Like Tubman, Cummings is only trying to use the people of Maryland County as a base of support for his dwindling. Presidential ambition. Tubman claimed to be Grebo, but during his 27 years in office he did not have a single native Grebo in his cabinet, or even in the Maryland County administration.
Although born in Maryland County and raised there, Tubman spoke not a word of Grebo, indicating his hidden disdain for the Native Liberians of the area. A few months ago, the Grebo community of Monrovia presented Cummings a statement of endorsement. Instead of responding to his people in their tongue, Grebo, Cummings spoke in English, the only language he speaks. The fact is, Cummings, like Tubman, is a Congo man, or a descendant of the ex-slaves brought to West Africa by the American Colonization Society, ACS.
In the National Anthem of Liberia, the ex-slaves who became known as Congo people declared themselves “a race benighted.”
The Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines the word “benighted” as: 1. Overtaken by darkness or night. 2. Existing in a state of intellectual, moral, or social darkness: unenlightened. ”
So, the Congo people are “benighted,” which means they have no vision, corrupt, adore debauchery, avaricious, narcissistic, love short term gratification, narrow-minded. And having ruled Liberia consecutively for more than 150 years, the result is, Liberia is the 4th poorest country in world.
Has it ever occur to you why no Congo Presidential candidate can admit being a Congo? In a democratic, multi-pary Liberia, the word “Congo” has become a stigma to connote an imminent political suicide.
Cummings will never admit being a Congo; although he is and will always be. The Congo candidates will not admit being Congoes and they know why. Congo rule is tantamount to underdevelopment, inequality, and segregation. A wise people should always be able to learn from their experience. Our experience has proven that Liberia will never develop under a Congo President. But we, Native Liberians, do have a choice in Boakai and Nuquay, Liberia’s ticket to development, progress, and democracy.

    .

  6. The winning candidate! Cummings and Sulunteh win, Liberia wins! I am happy that he is beginning his campaign in Maryland, a part of the Southeastern region, that was forgotten in previous years!

    • That’s completely delusional to think that Cummings retired from Coco Cola to come to Liberia and be elected president. He must be taking the Liberian people and electorates for granted. He’s a complete stranger Francien Richardson. Open your eyes and don’t be blind. Running a corporation in America is quite different than running a government in Liberia with different constituency interest. This is nothing like in the interest of shareholders to maximize their profit.

Cummings is the least experience in the race besides the only lady. He need to campaign to be the mayor of Haper, then governor and hopefully that will give him a good resume to contest for the presidency of Liberia. If you’re able to get to him, let him know that the Liberian people will eat his money and will not vote for him. Let him ask Robert Sirleaf.

Finally, Solunteh is an opportunist who’s only seeking an opportunity to get a job again. He did similar thing with Winston Tubman when he ran on the NDPL ticket as VSB. He served the Ellen administration from the inception of the government hold the positions of Minister of Transport, Labor, Post & Telecommunication and finally, Liberia Ambassador to the USA, Canada & Mexico. Ask him what impact he made at these various locations. What policy position he initiated at Transport ministry, Labor & Post & Telecommunication that impacted the lives of Liberians.

The drugs brought to Liberia during the Ebola crisis were donated freely to Liberia by many organizations and it wasn’t a personal contribution of Jeremiah Solunteh to Liberians. If he claimed such message, Liberians are here to exposed him. He is a complete opportunist who lobbied VP Boakai to be considered his running mate, but was rejected. Reject him Liberians.

  7. It’s so amusing that the so called “Vice President of Coca Cola” with all the solutions to transform the Liberian economy is virtually copying all the logistical implements from the Coaltion of Democratic Change (CDC) the mother party of the Alternative National Congress (ANC).

Quite frankly if this is how Alexander Comminings intends on being a copy 🐱 cat political leader who does not pay for political analysts strategies I fear to say that Cummings will manifest mediocre performance during the polls due unethical practices he executed at Coca Cola which he is manifesting as a political imposter in Liberia’s 2017 political Presidential race.

  8. What baffles me is how easy it is for these Grebo people to jump on the bandwagon of anything that claims to be a Marylander. Tubman fooled them for 27 years and now they are all over another Congau man who is only saying he is a Marylander only to get their vote. He will abandon them after he loses the elections in October. Same with Charles Brumskine and the Bassa people. Thank God for making me a Grand Gedean. We will never allow anything to fool us
