-Cummings calls on folks to support new gov’t, but hold them accountable
The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has concluded phase one of a three-day “Nationwide Thank You and Appreciation Tour” for citizens in Central and Western Liberia.
Though defeated during the just ended Presidential and Representative elections in Liberia, the party, on Monday, May 28, 2018 embarked on a three-day tour to thank the people of Liberia for their participation and show of support for ANC during the 2017 elections.
Speaking at separate programs during the tour, the party’s political leader Mr. Alexander Cummings, said that the party will stand by its word to the people of Liberia on promises made to them. “During the campaign process of the 2017 elections, we promised to come back to the people of Liberia to say thank you if we win or not and so we are here to fulfill said promise.”
He called on his supporters and members of his party to support the Weah administration but promised to hold them (government) accountable to improve the lives of the people of Liberia. “We are calling on you our supporters and members of the party to support this government but we can assure you that we will keep holding them accountable to improve the lives of the people of Liberia,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Representative of Nimba County District #6, Hon. Dorwoan Twan Gleekai, has promised to work along with Mr. Cummings and the ANC to improve the lives of his constituents and provide opportunities for them.
Speaking at the Tappita Town Hall in Nimba county on Tuesday, May 29, during the one of the ANC’s “Thank You” programs, the newly elected Representative who contested as an independent candidate in his district said, it beats his imagination for a defeated presidential candidate to come back to the people to tell them thank you even though he did not win the election.
Representative Gleekai however called on citizens of Nimba to see reason to rally around people like Mr. Alexander Cummings who, according to him (Rep. Gleekai), is a true leader and reconciler. “Let me use this medium to call on citizens of our county to rally around a man like Mr. Cummings who has proven leadership and is a reconciler of the people,” He said.
At the end of the first phase of the ANC’s three-day “Nationwide Thank You and Appreciation Tour” in Ganta, Nimba county on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, Cummings held talks with Chiefs, Elders, Women and the Youths of that county to encourage them form a part of the ANC, because they will be decision makers in the party as the party is not for a particular individual.
He disclosed that the party is open to recruitment of all well-meaning Liberians who believe that Liberia should be a better place for all. “We have started the process of recruitment of all well-meaning Liberians who believe that Liberia should be a better place for all,” Cummings said.
The phase one of the ANC’s “Nationwide Thank You and Appreciation Tour” covered Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Lofa and Gbarpolu counties with the rest of the counties to be covered soon.
The Alternative National Congress (ANC), founded and certificated in 2012, finished fifth in the just ended 2017 Presidential elections, bested overall by former football legend, George Weah, now President.
According to records, the 2017 elections was the party’s first Presidential election fielding Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, former Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the Coca-Cola company globally, as its candidate with Liberia’s former Ambassador to the United States and Canada, Jeremiah C. Sulunteh as running mate.
