Montserrado County’s District # 13 Representative, Saah Joseph, is appealing to the Ministry of Heath and Social Welfare and the Ebola Task Force to erect an ‘Ebola Testing Center’ in the Township of New Georgia amidst the increasing rate of Ebola deaths in his district.
Rep. Joseph said besides the about 27 calls he had received about Ebola cases (deaths), a recent case had been discovered in the New Georgia Estate’s Sign Board Community, where two persons had died and four suspected of having the virus.
The Montserrado County Representative made the statement yesterday during a program where the New Georgia’s Sign Board Block ‘A’ Community Youths expressed their interest to join in the sensitization against the deadly Ebola virus.
The CDC Representative has two ambulances and has been graded as the premier politician who has indisputably committed to save lives amidst the outbreak of Ebola.
Besides Rep. Joseph being the owner of the ambulances, he sometime drives the ambulance and many times appealed to and negotiated with hospital authorities to accept patients.
The repair of the Somalia Drive road and the provision of food and cash to the quarantined West Pointers are his latest initiatives.
During Wednesday’s program, the Youth Chairman, Kamboe T. Sneh, hailed Rep. Joseph for his heroic fight against Ebola and stated this his two ambulances have been immensely helpful in saving lives.
He presented a budget in the tone of US$2,280 for Ebola awareness and clean-up campaigns.
“Like me use this time again to reiterate my unflinching support to the fight against Ebola and let it be known that our fight should not be telling Liberians Ebola is real again,” Rep. Joseph said. “Because the many deaths is sufficient evidence that Ebola is real. Let us preach the message of prevention and how we can kick this virus from the country.”
He added: “I want to say since you are the only group to come out and say you want to help, I promise to also support the New Georgia Block ‘A’ Community Youths.”
But Rep. Joseph’s plea for the erection of the Ebola Testing Center came as his surprise because his first request was an erection of an Ebola Unit and then a health center to treat uncommon illnesses.
Meanwhile, it may be recalled that on Sunday, some angry residents of ‘Block D’ in New Georgia Estate, specifically behind the Market emphatically rejected an appeal from their Representative to erect a health center in their area for the treatment of ‘common sicknesses.’ They feared that it might later be transformed into an Ebola Unit.
The fuming residents snubbed Representative Saah Joseph during a mass meeting on the containment and prevention of the deadly Ebola virus in their community and the tackling of non-Ebola sicknesses, which are causing deaths due to the refusal of patients in Hospitals for fear of the Ebola virus.
Statistics show that about 18 persons have been confirmed dead between the New Georgia Junction to New Georgia Estate, but the recent disclosure from Rep. Joseph summed it to 20 persons.
