A new bible called the ‘African Study Bible (ASB)’ has been published with special emphasis on witchcraft, African culture and other issues adversely affecting the African Christian.

Rev. John K. Jusu, ASB Supervising Editor, said the bible is the first of its kind that is written by over 350 Africans in four different languages including English, French, Arabic and Portuguese for the African environment.

The notes  contained in the ASB are not in other bibles because where other bibles criticize witchcraft, polygamy and traditional practices, these are not a problem in the ASB. Rather, they are major things that Christians in Africa are confronted with, said Rev. Jusu.

He said the purpose for writing the ASB is to empower African leaders to be able to respond to complications they face on a daily basis, adding that it is difficult to address African issues because people that are addressing them are not will informed.

Although the ASB has not been translated, Rev. Jusu said smaller notes are used to explain parts of the bible that African pastors may find difficulty understanding.

He said the ASB was written in simple English that anybody with an average education can understand, because they want to put the truth in the hands of African leaders and Christians to upgrade Christianity. He said it took seven years from the time the idea was conceived up to the time the ASB was published.

The major challenges were to write a bible that speaks to several hundred cultures and, to overcome that, they went through a strong editorial system to determine the right translation for Africans, Rev. Jusu said.

“We started writing this bible in 2009/2010 and it took seven years. Seven is significant in the bible; it is the number of completion and wholeness. We are excited that within seven years Africa can present a bible to the international world,” he said.

Rev. Jusu said ASB is visible in every African bookstore he has entered since its publication, and the editors and publisher are making sure that the book is affordable.

Rev. John K. Jusu is a Sierra Leonean and a professor of education at the Africa International University in Kenya.

  1. Deuteronomy 4:2 “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you”

Proverb 30:5-6 “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. V6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar”

These verses are self explanatory. Moses warned us NOT to add or subtract from the word of the Most High. And we see the same being confirmed in Proverb.

The article states “The notes contained in the ASB are not in other bibles because where other bibles criticize witchcraft, polygamy and traditional practices, these are not a problem in the ASB. Rather, they are major things that Christians in Africa are confronted with, said Rev. Jusu”

Leviticus 19:31 “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards (sorcerer, witchcraft, necromancer, enchanter etc.), to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God”

And below you see the Most High prescribing the punishment for such practices and those who go after them.

Leviticus 20:6 “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people”

Leviticus 20:27 “A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them”

some people may say, oh, that was the old testament but lets hear what Christ himself said.

Matthew 5:17 – 18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. V18 For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled”

Has heaven and earth pass? if no, then the law stands.

Please my brothers and sisters DO NOT fall for that African Sturdy Bible trick. It is another means the devil has put in place to enslave our minds and obviously make us enemy of God (the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob).

The brother Jude (the second to last book in the new testament) and the apostle Paul warned us of men like this.

Jude 1:4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ”

2 Corinthians 11:13 – 15 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

V14 And no marvel; for satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

V15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works”

Wake up Liberia, Sierra Leone…wake up Africa. Are there not churches in every corner yet we suffer worse every day? Do the Europeans/white serve God better than us that they prosper in their doings while we remain in poverty? You have to ask yourself why are our nations impoverished? Is it because of Government mismanagement or poor African leadership as we also put it?

I leave you to think on what the prophet Jeremiah through the spirit of the Most High said.

Lamentations 2:13 – 17 “What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?

v14 Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity (sin), to turn away they captivity (slavery); but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.

V15 All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?

V16 All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: the hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

V17 The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries.”

Deuteronomy 32:29 “O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!”
