Sylvester Doe, a 16-year-old USA-based Liberian forward, has expressed his desire to represent the national football team of Liberia, the Lone Star.
Born in America to Liberian parents, Doe, with the consent of his parents, believes that it will be more rewarding to represent Liberia at any of the youth levels.
In 2011, Doe visited Liberia along with his mother, Mrs. Yarlee Korlewala Doe, before his return to the USA in 2013.
The 16 year-old currently plies his trade at Minnesota United Academy, the Youth Development Program of Minnesota United.
Minnesota United FC is an American professional soccer club based in Saint Paul, Minnesota that plays in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer. The club’s youth program focuses on developing professional-level soccer players who can play for Minnesota United’s first team. The MNUFC Youth Development Program will raise the level of the game across the state and region by bringing the highest level of youth soccer competition to the area and making it accessible to players regardless of the social or economic situation.
Doe is growing through the club’s development pathway — with a clear intent to make significant progress qualify enough to represent the club in the Major League Soccer, MLS.
In 2015/2017, Doe had a brief stint at Twin Star Academy U-12 & U-13 where he registered 70 goals in 80 games.
In 2018, Minnesota United FC then took over the Twin Star Academy, where Sylvester Doe still remains a key member at the U-14,15 &17 levels.
After a successful first season, the Minnesota United Development Academy announced the rosters for its second U13 and U14 boys teams, as well as its first-ever U15 group – with Sylvester Doe included in the 58 selected athletes but as a member of the U14 group.
Before the takeover, Twin Academy U-13 were crowned champions of the USA CUP with Doe finishing as the Tournament’s highest Goal scorer: 10 goals in 6 matches.
The young forward has since represented Minnesota United FC Development Academy in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium at the U-17 level & Canada with the U-15.
“Sylvester has been so in love with football since he was a kid; as a mother, it only warms my heart to see him achieve his childhood dreams,” Doe’s mother, Yarlee Korlewala Doe told kick442.com. “Moreover, this, I strongly believe will be even more rewarding if he can play for Liberia in the future. Doe literally talks about his brief visit to Liberia in 2011 as well as his strong desire to play for his country.”
