medica-Liberia Appoints Atty. Parwon as Country Director
.... Parwon is a member of the Liberia Feminist Forum, the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), and a consummate professional. She rose through the ranks of medica Liberia and brings years of experience from her roles over the last ten years from interning to Research Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Project Coordinator, and Advocacy officer.
medica Liberia, a non-profit organization dedicated to women's rights, has appointed Atty. Yah Vallah Parwon as Country Director effectively.
Prior to her full appointment, she served as the interim Country Director from January to December 2022. Parwon takes over from long-standing Country Director, Caroline Bowah, after an outstanding service of eleven years. Atty. Parwon will now lead the organization as its new Country Director.
Parwon is a member of the Liberia Feminist Forum, the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL), and a consummate professional. She rose through the ranks of medica Liberia and brings years of experience from her roles over the last ten years from interning to Research Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Project Coordinator, and Advocacy officer.
In these roles, she was able to build networks, grow synergies within and outside the organization, gain firsthand experiences at different levels of the organization, and come face to face with topical issues affecting women and girls.
Parwon, as part of her community service, co-founded the Rising Youth Mentorship Initiative (RYMI), a non-profit community-based organization focused on the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescent girls and young women in Liberia.
She is a Chevening scholar and holds a Master of Laws in Gender, Conflict, and Human Rights from Ulster University, United Kingdom, winning the Transitional Justice Institute (TJI)/ Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission Dissertation Prize.
She also holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia, and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the Mother Pattern College of Health Sciences.
With her deep understanding of medica Liberia's mission, proven leadership skills, feminist perspective, and extensive engagement in women's rights, Parwon has the vision to continue guiding the organization toward its mission.
