Malaysian Super League: Kpah Sherman Scores Tenth League Goal

Despite his outstanding performance at club level, Sherman has been criticized for not applying same at the national team level

Involved in the build up from the middle of the pack, striker Kpah Sherman on Friday, August 13, scored the opening goal for his team Kedah FA in their 4-2 loss against Selangor FC in the Malaysian Super League.

Sherman collected the ball from the center circle, provided a pass to his team mate Kipré Tchétché, who eventually provided the assist for the Liberian striker to score a brilliant volley from the edge of the 18-yard box into the top corner.

The goal, which was scored in the 24th minute, was Sherman’s tenth league goal of the season from 13 matches.

Kedah were reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute when Brazilian defender Renan Alves was sent off for a deliberate handball offence in the penalty area.

The penalty resulted in an own goal after the ball came off the goalpost and hit the back of goalkeeper Shahril Saa’ri.

Thirty minutes into the first half, Selangor took the lead for the first time when Danial Asri tipped in a cross from the right flank, but Kedah replied 14 minutes later to tie things up at 2-2 to bring the first half to a close.

Selangor took advantage of Kedah being down to 10 men and fought to score two additional goals in the second half to end the game at 4-2, collecting all three points.

The result leaves Kedah at the 5th position on the league table with 26 points from 14 matches with four outstanding matches.

Sherman, 29, remains the team’s top goal scorer for the season and third on the league top goal scorer chart.

Despite his outstanding performance at the club level, Sherman has been criticized for not performing likewise at the level of the Liberia national team.

The 29-year-old has so far scored a single goal out of eight appearances for the Lone Star. His first and only competitive international goal so far was recorded on October 15, 2019, when the Lone Star pinned CHAD 1-0 at the SKD Sports Stadium in the first leg of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers preliminary round.

He recently missed a penalty when Liberia lost 1-0 against Mauritania in an international friendly played in Tunis, Tunisia.
