Liberia: USAID Liberia to Announce Grant Awards to 30 Local Agribusinesses

Three agribusiness incubators — TRIBE, iCampus, and Educare — will host USAID/Liberia, the USAID Africa Trade and Investment activity, and over ninety (90) local agribusinesses at pitch competitions to mark the end of their incubation.

The three-day event will highlight U.S. government investments in Liberia to stimulate agribusinesses and further trade regionally, on the continent, and with the United States. Thirty (30) grant awards to local agribusinesses will be announced, ten (10) each on each day per the schedule beginning today, Monday, December 4, 5, 6, by TRIBE, iCampus, and Educare, respectively.

Through the USAID Africa Trade and Investment activity, USAID/Liberia seeks to promote food security and strengthen the commercial agricultural sector, especially for women and youth, through improved agribusiness, climate finance investment, and productivity enhancements of Liberian agribusinesses.

It can be recalled that in June of this year, USAID, in partnership with the Africa Trade and Investment Program launched the application process for an agribusiness incubator, to support and scale the growth of the sector through access to technical assistance, mentorship, and co-financing of up to US$50,000.

The program seeks potential applicants and interested entrepreneurs from five of Liberia’s 15 counties, including Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, Lofa, Bomi, and Grand Gedeh counties, to apply up to June 30.

It also provides detailed information to stakeholders in the agribusiness ecosystem and local leaders and policymakers on the program’s scope in the selected locations; the application process, qualification criteria for selection, and the nature of agribusinesses that are eligible for the program.
