Liberia: Tony FC Reach First-Ever Knockout Cup Final

After an initial entry of 25 teams in the 2021/22 LFA knockout Cup, known as the PetroTrade Cup due to sponsorship reasons, the competition has now narrowed down to two teams with Tony FC and LISCR FC becoming the finalists.

As always, it was a dramatic day at the SKD practice pitch between rivals Muscat and Tony FC after both teams settled to a draw in their previous three meetings this season.

Muscat FC needed at least a goalless draw to progress to the Final after forcing Tony FC to a one-all in the first-leg, but things did not go their way as an early goal from Abraham Kamara was enough for the Margibi-based team (2-1 on aggregate) to progress to their first-ever knockout cup final.

Muscat pulled all bodies forward in search of at least an equalizer, but could not convert their chances. Tony FC can now boast of being the one to secure a win from the four meetings between the two teams.

Elsewhere, LISCR FC progressed to their fourth final in the last five years, following a 3-1 win against Nimba FC at the Tusa Field. Goals from Marlon Harrison, Mark Karlay, and Sam Jackson completed the former title holders’ 6-1 aggregate win against Nimba FC.

In the women’s category, Determine Girls continued their chase for a double after a 2-0 win against Sr. Female Professionals. The match was abandoned after Sr. Pro’s goalkeeper went down injured with no substitute goalkeeper available.

Determine Girls progressed on a 9-0 aggregate. In the second kickoff at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, Ambassadors FC repeated their 2-1 win against Soccer Ambassadors to complete their 4-2 aggregate win.

Ambassadors will face Determine Girls in the women’s final in the first match on April 24, while LISCR and Tony FC will battle things up in the late kickoff at the same venue.
