Liberia: Solution, Not Position

Left: Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill, the Managing Director of the National Port Authority Bill Twehway, and Solicitor General, Saymah Syrenius Cephus, for public corruption

There is plenty of talk on the radio and in the newspapers these days about the sanction placed on three top government of Liberia (GOL) officials by the government of the United States of America (USA). The three top GOL officials have been accused of corruption and bribery. All of the oppositionists have taken the position of condemnation rather than the position of solution.

The GOL has taken the position of condemnation and investigation rather than the position of solution. Some persons are calling for prosecution while others are calling for criterion. Yet others are saying that the declaration of the immediate past GOL and the present GOL of the position that corruption is the number one enemy of Liberia is enough criterion for denunciation and prosecution.

Remember that the USA Ambassador at the time called a GOL Deputy Minister of Information corrupt before the President of Liberia suspended him. Then the Deputy Minister began boasting that he had been suspended but he was receiving his salary. Shortly thereafter, he was reinstated back to the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism (MICAT).

Therefore, many people are saying that the denunciation and suspension by the President of Liberia are not serious. But the sanction by the US government is serious because it is a warning that it is time for regime change. After all, the present GOL is not managing the economy of Liberia well to generate the level of profits that is required by the USA government. This means that the US government is in the process of finding a new regime for Liberia in the next selection.

This new government will have no fundamental difference from the present GOL because of its commitment to continue implementing the colonial poverty generation system of the production of raw materials for export without the prioritization of Value Addition.

No wonder, none of the national religious, political, civil society, business, and GOL leaders gave support to the Tipoteh side in the Tipoteh versus Korkoya Case at the Supreme Court of Liberia (SCL), directed at exposing the unconstitutional operations of the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia, the supervisory body for elections in Liberia. To support the constitutional side, in this case, would mean no more support coming from the US government to satisfy their greed-driven postures.

Why does the GOL wait for the command from the USA government before taking the action of suspension? The GOL has to wait for the USA command because it is committed to the system that gives a little of the profits to itself while giving the big share of the profits to the USA government. The greed-driven posture of the local powers that be subjects them to abiding by the command of the global powers that be.

Although the present GOL, while contesting as a non-ruling political party, promised to hit the ground running if “elected”, has begun to play the blame game by placing blame for the present poverty generation on the immediate past GOL, the global market and the local progressives. When some of the people who love Liberia take the position of solution rather than mere denunciation, the present GOL condemns them, calling them “devils in human form”.

But how does Liberia move from position to solution? Liberia moves from position to solution through the process of the sharing of knowledge, by people who love Liberia, in ways that motivate the people of Liberia to take actions together within the Rule of Law, to transform the electoral system from UNFAIR to FAIR. This transformation is the only way to elect persons with good records, records of helping others, especially the poor people, to help themselves to get out of poverty generation and move into poverty alleviation.

LIBERIA NEEDS SOLUTION NOT POSITION! WALK THE SOLUTION TALK!
