After a great success in the 2021/22 Orange Second Division League Season, Cece United on Saturday held its first modified annual awards and appreciation night at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia, dishing out various awards to players who impressed during the season.

“This new chapter of our club’s history aims to recognize not just the best players, but also the people who work behind the scenes toward the club's success.”

During the first edition of the club’s modified awards ceremony, three categories of awards were presented. They include Cece United Club Player of the Year, Cece United Fans’ Player of the Year, and Top Goal Scorer Award. Club Player of the Year: The Award is decided by club officials through voting. It is awarded to the most outstanding player who consistently performed and exemplified the best work ethic and attitude on and off the pitch.

Midfielder Jenkins Sieh became the first-ever recipient of the award after an outstanding season. He contributed significantly to the team’s success in his role as a creative midfielder, providing 12 assists.

Sieh got 16pts from the orderly voting process ahead of his teammates, Delton Kollie, who accumulated 15pts, Manson Goe (12pts), Robin Hney (12pts), Theodore Gould (8pts), and Edwin Johnson (6pts), according to the club’s statement.

Fans’ Player of the Year: This award allows fans to vote for their favorite player during the season through an online poll. After five days of online voting, team captain Edwin Johnson topped the poll ahead of midfielder Sieh and other teammates. Out of the 2,016 votes Johnson received 785 votes (38.9%) ahead of Sieh who received 700 votes (34.7%).

For the Top Goal Scorer Award, striker Patrick Karsor and Forward Robin Hney were both presented a golden boot each for emerging as joint top goalscorers after ending the season with eight goals apiece. All players and members of the technical staff received a certificate of appreciation for their outstanding performance during the 2021/22 league season.

Speaking at the event, Cece United’s Founder and CEO, Pawala Janyan recounted the many achievements made by the club so far despite the numerous challenges with the just-ended league season being a remarkable one.

“Amidst the numerous challenges, we continue to go from strength to strength. This year, we achieved a milestone that was considered unachievable. We didn’t only announce ourselves as a force to reckon with in the second division, but went beyond our target to win the championship; something that could not have been achieved without your efforts as technical and administrative staff, players, partners, and the fans. We therefore must recognize the achievement and performance of you, our players, coaches, and partners,” Janyan said.

The ceremony was graced by football stakeholders, and several Liberian artists, who performed live during the event.
