Liberia: Seboe, Koon, Bility, Others Appointed Chairpersons of House Committees

Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, in consultation with the leadership of the House of Representatives, has announced the appointments of additional key committees to further strengthen legislative efforts and governance of the august body.

According to Rule 51 of the House of Representatives, the functions or roles of the Committees of the House of Representatives are to exercise legislative oversight in ensuring that the executive branch of the government complies with legislative intent and improves the effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of governmental operations.

Others are to evaluate program performance to prevent the executive encroachment on legislative prerogatives and investigate all instances of poor administration, arbitrary and capricious behavior, abuse, waste, dishonesty, and fraud.

Further, to assess the ability of an agency or official to manage and carry out program objectives, review and determine government financial priorities, ensure that executive policies reflect the public interest, and review agencies' rule-making process, among others.

The chairpersons of the committees are Rep. ‘Dixon Seboe, Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning; Rep. Richard Koon, Hydrocarbon; Rep. Musa Bility, National Security; Rep. Atty. Michael Thomas, Judiciary; Rep. Julie Wiah, Health Committee; Rep. Clarence Gahr, Public Accounts & Expenditure and Rep. Frank Saah Foko, Jr of Maritime. 

Others are Rep. P. Mike Jurry, Investment & Concession; Rep. Eugene Kollie, Mines & Energy Natural Resource; Rep. Foday Fahnbulleh, Good Governance and Reform; Rep. Matthew Joe, Public Works & Rural Development; Rep. Zinnah Norman, Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries; Rep. Ellen Attoh Wreh, State Enterprises, Commissions, and Autonomous Agencies; Rep. Ivar Jones, Post & Telecommunications, Rep. Bintu Massaley, Youth & Sports; Rep. Alex Noah, Commerce Committee; Rep. Siafa Momo Kpoto, Transport Committee; and Rep. Abu Kamara, Contracts & Monopolies. 

Meanwhile, Speaker Koffa expressed confidence in the appointed individuals, stating, “I believe that the appointed committees will play a crucial role in shaping and advancing legislative initiatives that benefit the people we serve. Their dedication and expertise will contribute significantly to the overall development and progress of our nation,” Speaker Koffa averred.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of collaboration and collective efforts in achieving the legislative goals set forth by the House of Representatives.
