ON THE OCCASION OF THE  246th   INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, BENSON STREET, MAMBA POINT

MONROVIA, LIBERIA

JUNE 30, 2022

His Excellency Mr. Michael McCarthy,

Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Liberia, and Staff of the Embassy of the United States;

The Doyen and Members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps;

The Dean and Members of the Cabinet;

Officials of Government;

Distinguished Guests;

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Ambassador McCarthy, it is with great pleasure that I join you and your team today to celebrate the 246th Independence Anniversary of your great Nation, the United States of America.

On behalf of the Government and People of Liberia, and in my own name, I would like to extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to you, Your Excellency, and through you, to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and the wonderful people of the United States of America, as you once again commemorate the birth of the American nation.

Mr. Ambassador:  History has tied our two countries together in a special bond of relations in which we share a commonality in politics, religion, culture, and a strong belief in the value of the rule of law, liberal democracy and human rights.

How much we share in the American story has been publicly documented for generations,  and we remain proud of the unique friendship that has evolved.  So let me use this opportunity to renew our commitment to the historical ties which have existed between both our countries for more than two centuries.  We look forward to further strengthening that friendship and forging new partnerships in various fields.

We will continue to engage positively with the United States as our closest traditional partner, in order to build on our existing bilateral framework, as well as to cooperate with the United States in the defense of democracy, and in the global fight to achieve and sustain international peace and security.

Once again, on behalf of a grateful People, I wish to express profound thanks and appreciation for the generous support and commitment that the United States of America has given over the years to the success of Liberia as a Nation.

TOAST

And now, Excellencies, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I invite you to raise your glasses and drink with me to the good health, long life and happiness of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr; the prosperity and well-being of the American People; and to the bonds of friendship and cooperation which so happily exist between the Republic of Liberia and the United States of America.

I thank you.
