Liberia: President Weah Urges Muslims to Avoid Violence in Resolving Land Disputes

.... "Lastly, I urge all Muslims to avoid violence in their bid to resolve land disputes, because a violent approach to land disputes has the potential to derail and undermine the peace we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy today."

President George. Weah has urged Muslims to avoid violence in their bid to resolve land disputes because a violent approach to land disputes has the potential to derail and undermine the peace.

Since after Liberia's 14 years of civil unrest, land disputes remain alarming and have resulted in the death of citizens and many cases in court. Currently, Nimba, Montserrado, and Margibi continue to top in terms of land disputes in Liberia.

Weah's statement comes as Muslims in Liberia are gearing up for the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community

"Let peace reign supreme during these elections, and let the will of the Liberian people be accepted by all. May the Almighty Allah bless the work of our hands and save Liberia," Weah said. "As faithful and devout Muslims, you joined your colleagues from all around the world to fast and pray for yourselves, your families, and your dear country Liberia, for one month."

"Lastly, I urge all Muslims to avoid violence in their bid to resolve land disputes, because a violent approach to land disputes has the potential to derail and undermine the peace we have enjoyed and continue to enjoy today."

Weah said it is with joy and happiness that he congratulates Muslim brothers and sisters within the borders of Liberia and elsewhere, as they are about to complete the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

He continues: "Once again, as one who believes in religious tolerance, and my capacity as the leader of all Liberians, regardless of religious beliefs or political orientation, I am glad that I was able to extend kind gestures to all Muslims in all of the fifteen (15) counties of Liberia, by providing financial and nutritional support."

Weah said since he became President, he has consistently reached out to Muslim brothers and sisters, which is his way of Identifying with Muslims and expressing his deep appreciation for their many supplications offered for the nation.

"I want to reaffirm my support to all Muslim Civil Servants and Officials of Government across the Republic of Liberia as they go about celebrating the Eidul-Fitr," Weah said.

Meanwhile, Weah has announced that all Muslims serving in Government are excused from work on the day marking the official celebration of the end of Ramadan in Liberia. He urges Muslim brothers and sisters, to remain as law-abiding and peaceful as they have demonstrated in the past.

"On that occasion, I congratulated the Muslim Community, and I urged them to pray for the peace and development of Liberia. I also urged them for their prayers and supplications for God to end the massive and devastating consequences of the Coronavirus being experienced by the world," he added.
