Liberia: Muscat FC Earn Promotion to Orange 1st Division League

Muscat FC players celebrate after their 2-1 win against Cece United

Paynesville side, Muscat FC, have earned a promotion to the Orange first division league after a couple of seasons in the second division.

Muscat sealed their promotion to the top-flight for the first time after edging Jubilee FC 2-1 in their final league match on Sunday at the SKD Practice Pitch.

The Paynesville-based team needed at least a draw after securing a 2-1 win against already champions Cece United, while Jubilee needed a compulsory win.

Two penalty goals from striker Mark Yallah was enough to confirm his team’s automatic promotion as they joined champions Cece United to become the second team to qualify for the top-flight league.

Jubilee, who led the table for a couple of weeks, missed out on the championship and an automatic qualification slot.

However, the church boys still have an opportunity to secure promotion through the two-legged promotional playoff against NPA Anchors.

In the first-leg on Tuesday, Ernest Gongar scored a late penalty to earn a crucial point for Jubilee as they settled to a 1-1 against NPA at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS). NPA had earlier taken the lead in the 20th minute through Myers Garlo.

The final match to decide who will join Cece United and Muscat will be played on Friday, May 13 at the ATS.

Elsewhere in the 2nd division relegation playoff, Pags FC secured an early advantage with a 2-1 win against Ganta Almighty, ahead of the return-leg scheduled for May 11.

The aggregate losers will drop in the modified playoff category to face Small Town FC and Life FC in the best out of three.

The least team will be relegated to the 3rd division.
