Ahead of the Lofa County By-election scheduled for May 10, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia (SEGAL), Momo T. Cyrus, has joined the race and vowed to redeem the county.

The Lofa County By-election was declared as a result of Brownie Samukai being convicted after winning the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial election.

Mr. Cyrus made the disclosure Thursday, March 31, 2022 after "Team Cyrus" presented the National Elections Commission (NEC) document qualifying his candidacy for the 2022 by-election and official petition statement.

He said though he has been petitioned on several occasions to contest, it was elevated this time, and no way to let it down.

“Today is a blessed day for me and Lofa County at large. Our quest to serve our people came from them. Our women's groups, youth, and elderly were involved,” the SEGAL boss said.

He noted that the decision coming from citizens of Lofa County is a call to duty and he is prepared to work for the people of Lofa, stating, “we are coming to serve and to give back to our people instead of receiving.”

Accordingly, Mr. Cyrus said the people of Lofa will see a new leadership style that will pay dividends to them.

“The women, youth, student community, traditional and elderly people will benefit. We hope to bring all parties together for the benefit of Lofa. Lofa County will be our common denominator and we will work with all sides. We will do what they want us to do,” Mr. Cyrus said.

Mr. Cyrus said he is going to the Senate as a team player because there are good people in the house. “We will not pretend that we know all and we will disagree to agree in the interest of Lofa.”

Abraham D. Wala, head of “Team Cyrus”, said the citizens of Lofa County have long craved for adequate representation at the Liberian Senate.

Mr. Wala said “the citizens of Lofa County have long been socially and politically disintegrated because of divisive leadership. Lofa has long lost its position as the breadbasket of Liberia due to poor road and agriculture infrastructures and very low incentives on agricultural investments.”

He said Lofa is resource endowed with very high economic potentials and yet lacking way behind in every aspect of development.

“Lofa County has an enviable pool of professionals of all disciplines to robustly remedy the development gaps of the county. The people of Lofa desire a leadership at the level of the Liberian Senate that is innovative, assertive, tolerant, approachable, engaging, and result focussed,” he said.

Mr. Wala said the decision by people of Lofa to take Mr. Cyrus to the Senate is based on several reasons including that Cyrus is an assertive unifier, thereby cutting across tribal, religious, social, and political divides in the county.

“Mr. Cyrus is a heroic achiever who is promoting agricultural production and providing job opportunities for thousands. He is also a relentless advocate, engaging partners for improvement of lives for all,” he said.

Mr. Wala added that Mr. Cyrus is a passionate benevolent  and giving hope to the needy and empowering women and youths.
