Liberia: Massive Reforms Expected at MOH Soon

Following weeks of discussion with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at Global Fund on its reports, a team from Global Fund has paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Health and massive reforms are expected soon at the Ministry.

The team visit was predicated upon an alleged misapplication of donor funds at the Ministry of Health. The meeting, which took place on April 29, 2022 was part of a series of meetings the visiting team held with the leadership of the Ministry, and high on the gender were issues centered on ways forward to mitigate these problems.

Speaking during the climax of a weeklong meeting with the Global funds representative at the Headquarters of the Ministry in Congo Town, Health Minister Dr. Whilemina Jallah reassured the partners of stringent measures by the Ministry to mitigate these problems.

Minister Jallah clarified that one of the reasons why these issues came up was because she was not working closely with the program. Adding that “going forward all other programs including the Global Fund grants would be closely monitored to ensure responsibility, efficiency and accountability.”

Minister Jallah has over the past time been one of the persons who has been standing strong in the areas of accountability, especially when counties have been contracted by USAID and other partners.

Minister Jallah: “Going forward we want to reassure you of our commitment that we will institute strong measures against those that would be culpable after the ongoing investigation.
