The fifth edition of the Lonestar Cell MTN’s Y’ello Scholars Internship and Graduate Trainee programs application process is now open.
The Y’ello Scholars’ Internship Program offers university sophomores and juniors who are 18-25 years old the chance to demonstrate their abilities on cross functional Teams and interdepartmental projects.
Graduating seniors, university students and recent graduates who have been out of university for at least a year, are eligible for the Y’ello Scholars' Graduate Trainee Program which runs from 12–18 months.
Lonestar Cell MTN’s Head of Human Resources, Johnett D. Horace stated,” The Ýéllo Scholars’ program began in 2019 as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to give back to young Liberians through capacity building and on-the-job training.”
Twenty-year-old Wealthy Wilson was recruited from Starz University in 2022 as a Yello Scholar for the Internship Program. As a student of Information Technology, her interest in Lonestar Cell MTN was to gain an understanding of its operations. However, she ended up working in HR.
“It’s amazing that I got to work in the HR department. As someone who has been into IT forever, it was a little difficult at first to not dabble in anything technical. Since joining the department, I’ve improved my interpersonal skills and under-took some technical tasks including the completion of the Staff ID cards Project,” she said.
According to Ms. Horace, Ms. Wilson, with minimum supervision from the Information Technology Department, single-handedly transformed the staff ID card template into a modern design for the over 150 Lonestar Cell MTN. Now, Ms. Wilson handles onboarding for New Joiners and other HR tasks.
“Over the last four years,” said Ms. Horace, “we have been able to provide practical job training and capacity development for over 37 young Liberian Scholars (males and females), particularly in the field of telecommunications and technology. Five of these scholars have been hired as permanent employees of Lonestar Cell MTN.”
Liberia’s leading telecommunications company also encourages young women to apply. “They too, can make a significant contribution to Lonestar Cell MTN. We are committed to transforming the lives of young people in Liberia,” she said.
Applicants for both Graduate Trainee and Internship programs must be 18 to 25 years old at the time of application submission, computer literate, a Liberian citizen, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Those who meet the eligibility criteria should send a cover letter, a CV/resume, a two-minute motivational video, a copy of their current control and grade sheets for the previous semester to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications for both programs close on May 15, 2022.
