Liberia: LISGIS Needs 17,000 Temporary Workers

LISGIS said interested persons, should apply online at www.census.lisgis.gov.lr.  LISGIS said those who have already applied for the first phase should not apply for the second phase, as their data have already been captured.

The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), is carrying on nationwide recruitment of temporary data census collectors/enumerators for the conduct of the 2022 National Population and Housing Census (NPHC), which might be conducted this year.

The exercises will begin Monday, August 8, 2022. The countrywide recruitment of census enumerators will count every citizen and resident in the country, as well as gather other economical or social information.

According to the Census House, the temporary employment of the data collectors is aimed at recruiting a total of 17,000 enumerators to go to every nook and  cranny of the country and enumerate everyone.

LISGIS said interested persons, should apply online at www.census.lisgis.gov.lr.  LISGIS said those who have already applied for the first phase should not apply for the second phase, as their data have already been captured.

“Requirements include high school documents including WAEC certificate or degree and passport size picture. Also, candidates must be Liberian citizens, aged 18 by October 22.”

“It furthered that applicants should be fluent in English for proper understanding of the Enumerator’s Area Manual and the CAPI Application Manual and Versatile in the usage of electronic gadgets such as the use of a tablet and smartphones for surveys. As for surveys, enumerators must be physically fit to walk long distances to reach hard-to-reach enumeration areas.”

LISGIS indicated that the 2022 census will be ‘Digital,’ in line with the current technology being adopted by other countries.  The census will involve digital cartography, and computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI) using electronic Tablets, which will be used by the enumerators to carry out the same face-to-face interviews.

“The significant change and advantage this time will be that enumeration area maps will be uploaded onto the Tablets, questionnaires will be uploaded onto the Tablets; manuals will also be uploaded onto the Tablets; coding and editing and cleaning of the data will be done in real-time in the Tablets as enumeration is carried out and the completed questionnaire will be transmitted immediately via the internet to the central servers at LISGIS,” the Census House said.

Meanwhile, to ensure that the Census is held in October 2022, the Daily Observer has an unconfirmed  report that President George Weah will recall the House of Representatives and the Senate in August to set a new date for the Census.

The Senate has previously voted to send the census to January 2023 and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for concurrence but the House has adjourned for their 2nd Quarter and failed to act.

The Lawmakers are also expected to act on other priority bills, including the US$800 ‘third amendment’ of the ArcelorMittal Liberia concession agreement.
