Liberia: LiMA boss Tours Maritime Facilities at Freeport

The newly appointed Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., last week concluded a series of visits to maritime facilities in Monrovia. Beginning at the Department of Port State Control (PSC) offices at the Freeport of Monrovia, Cllr. Lighe received a briefing from Director John F. Harvey on the ongoing upgrades to the office complex, which are nearing completion.

The PSC Department plays a crucial role in inspecting foreign vessels at Liberian seaports to ensure compliance with international regulations. Enhancing the Port State Control office facility will bolster the department's performance in upholding safety standards and inspecting visiting ships.

Continuing his tour, Commissioner Lighe visited the Monrovia Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRMRCC) and pledged to elevate its standards to meet international expectations. The MRMRCC focuses on the safety of maritime activities in Liberia's coastal waters and exclusive economic zone, providing essential 24/7 operational support.

Additionally, Cllr. Lighe acquainted himself with the operations of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) at their technical center, meeting with Director General Madam Emma Metieh Glassco for a brief working session.

Wrapping up his visits, the Commissioner expressed his dedication to enhancing the surveyed infrastructures and improving the working environment for LiMA staff. He also committed to providing scholarships to deserving students aligned with LiMA's strategic goals.

Accompanying Cllr. Lighe were key personnel, including Cllr. Nya Gbaintor, Desire Satia, Darlington Cheeks, John Cuffey, Simeon Cheah, and other senior management team members.
