Liberia: LICC Graduates 47

The Liberia International Christian College (LICC) held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, December 9, with approximately 47 students receiving their degrees. It marked the ninth graduation and the third time the college has offered bachelor’s degrees since its establishment over a decade ago.

During the ceremony, Dr. Numoe James Kiamu, president of the college, emphasized that the LICC is a project and a faith gift from God to Liberians. He highlighted the college’s journey, starting as an accredited institution offering associate degrees in 2009 and eventually having its four programs upgraded to full bachelor’s degree status by the National Commission on Higher Education in 2020.

Kiazulu emphasized the LICC’s commitment to serving Liberia by providing quality higher education, noting that the institution’s first decade focused on vision, establishment, and building the institution, while the second decade aims to enhance the institution’s wealth and capacities, aligning with the principles of Proverbs 24:3-5.

He explained that from its humble beginnings in 2009 till date, the college’s story remains one of modest but progressive growth in various dimensions and operations.

“LICC started as an accredited Associate Degree granting institution in 2009 and in 2020, the National Commission on Higher Education elevated its four programs to full bachelor degree status,” he said.

“Although an entire decade elapsed before this upgrade took place, the college remained firmly focused on its call to serve Liberians in providing quality higher education,” he said.

Dr. Frank E. Gainer, the commencement speaker, encouraged the graduates to always remember their origins and make meaningful contributions to their country. He compared life to passing through a tunnel, emphasizing the importance of carrying a lamp and shining a light on one’s path.

Gainer also stressed the value of teamwork and urged the graduates to work together to bring positive change to Liberia. LICC currently offers degrees in four departments: Theology, Education, Business, and Agriculture. The college holds great potential in bringing about change and providing leadership in the municipality.

“Let your light shine as you go forth and as you go through a tunnel carry a lamp, don’t wait until you get there before putting your light on, but put it on while entering the tunnel,” he said.

Gainer urged the graduates to take the banner of education, cultivate goodwill, and utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired at LICC to make a positive impact on the college and society.
