Liberia: Ivorian Fisherman Arrested in Maryland with Narcotics Valued at $L500K

An Ivorian Nationale has been arrested and is undergoing a thorough investigation in Maryland County for being in possession of narcotic substances. According to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), the 53-year-old Ivorian national was illegally caught in possession of narcotic substances valued at over L$500,000.

In a recent interview, the LDEA Commander for Maryland County, agent Joseph Tegeddine, stated that Nyan Sackor was arrested after receiving information from community sources that the suspect, a fisherman, was in possession of a large quantity of narcotic substances.

Agent Tegeddine further disclosed that suspect Nyan Sackor was arrested around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, with 20 parcels of high-grade marijuana over the sea near Harper City.

The LDEA Commander also described the arrest as a bold step taken by the security detachment in the county in the wake of the festive season.

According to him, the suspect is currently undergoing investigation in a temporary withholding cell in Harper, Maryland.

Meanwhile, suspect Sackor has admitted to transporting said illegal substances from Cess Town to Harper, but noted that the narcotic substances were given to him by a friend in Cess Town, where he went fishing.

“I am a fisherman in Harper and, normally, we can go over the sea fishing and sometimes reach nearby counties  when the hustle is tough. But while coming back from Cess Town, a friend asked me to carry his bag to Harper. I did not look inside the bag before reaching Harper. I was arrested by the security almost in Harper at about 1:00 a.m.,” suspect Sackor narrated.

Meanwhile, the suspect said he placed a call to the owner of the bag that contained the marijuana, but the call did not go through. “I am afraid of being sentenced,” Sackor lamented.
