Liberia: Health Workers Urge Boakai to Rectify ‘Error’ in MOH Nomination

NAHWUL Secretary General, Deemi T. Dearzrua

The National Health Workers Union of Liberia (NAHWUL) is admonishing President Joseph Boakia to ensure that the recent error made in an appointment at the Ministry of Health is corrected.

On February 20, Pres. Boakai made additional appointments in his government, affecting several institutions, including the Ministry of Health.

President Boakai appointed Roger S.W.Y. Domah, as Deputy Minister for Administration, Martha Morris as Assistant Minister for Administration, Liberia Immigration Services, Stephen Zargo as Commissioner General, Elijah F. Rufus, Deputy Commissioner for Administration, A. Kundukai Jaleiba, Deputy Commissioner for Operations, and Atty. Dickson R. Tamba, Deputy Commissioner for Naturalization.

The appointment of Domah soon came under question by Pres. Boakai. It is reported that the former Nimba County District #7 lawmaker is not the designated person for the post. Instead, it should have been Martha Morris who was shifted to the position of Assistant Minister for Administration. “In response to this error, President Boakai instructed his team to make the necessary corrections, but since then, the correction has yet to be made,” the health workers’ union said.

In a release over the weekend, NAHWUL— a conglomeration of health workers across Liberia through its secretary general, Deemi T. Dearzrua, lauded the Liberian leader for acknowledging an error made during the nomination process but alarmed that the correction has not been made.

“It is important to note, however, that more than 48 hours have passed since His Excellency issued this directive, yet no corrective action has been taken, despite other new nominations being made,” the release stated.

The Union added that it stands firmly behind President Boakai’s decision to appoint Martha C. T. Morris as DMA but is concerned over the apparent delay in implementing the President’s directive, particularly regarding this matter. We would like His Excellency to kindly ensure that he maintains control and that no hidden influences obstruct his well-intentioned decisions.

According to the National Health Workers Union, the nomination of Martha C. T. Morris for the position of DMA at the Ministry of Health is a testament to her outstanding commitment and expertise.

Martha C. T. Morris is the Chairperson of the NAHWUL Bong Chapter and the Vice President of Administration at the national level. She served as Chairperson of the United Party in Bong County and has been in the health sector for 15 years.
