Liberia: Friends of Massachusetts Congratulates President-Elect Boakai

— Expresses optimism of ‘new day’

The Friends of Massachusetts (FOMA), a US-based organization, has extended congratulations to President-Elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai on his victory in Liberia’s recent Presidential runoff election.

FOMA President Prince Woods describes Ambassador Boakai's election as a “dawning of a new day” for the country. The group also lauded Liberians for their decision to elect Boakai, expressing optimism that the nation is now on a path toward progress.

“We, as Liberians based in the United States of America, are very impressed with the decision taken by Liberians back home to vote for Boakai to lead the country for the next six years,” Woods said. “We want to thank our brothers and sisters for making such a decision. It was a good step taken, and we believe that the Country is now on its way to progress,” he noted.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 6, Woods expressed confidence in Boakai's leadership, citing his track record of integrity and dedication spanning over thirty years in national governance.

The organization believes that Boakai, as an astute statesman, will restore Liberia’s pride and revitalize the nation, which has faced hardship, poverty, and marginalization.

“Boakai worked for over thirty years serving our country without any trace of corruption or integrity problem,” Woods said. “It shows patriotism and honesty. These are the kinds of people Liberia needs right now, and we are sure that he will bring back the nation's pride and value the people and Liberia as a country once had across Africa and the World.”

FOMA called on Liberians to work together with the President-Elect to rebuild and repair the areas of the country that have been neglected or damaged by past governments and the civil conflict.

The organization emphasized the importance of focusing on sectors such as healthcare, education, security, agriculture, and energy for the nation's advancement and believes that the Boakai-Koung administration will prioritize these areas.

FOMA believes that almost all of the sectors, including Health, Education, Security, Agriculture, and Energy among others, will be revitalized by the Boakai-Koung administration.

“These are very key areas of our Country and, for too long, they have been neglected and abandoned. If we must move ahead as a nation, we must focus on these important areas, something we believe Ambassador Boakai is capable of doing,” Woods asserted.

The US-based group admonished President-Elect Boakai to remain focused on his agenda for the country, noting that he should not be carried away by the many distractions that may come his way.

The group recognized the complex challenges that Liberia faces, highlighting the need for a determined and focused leader who can bring about the long-awaited change.

Woods reassured President-Elect Boakai that the Liberian community in Massachusetts, represented by FOMA, will stand ready to provide assistance and support throughout his administration.

Meanwhile, FOMA is an African-focused organization based in Worcester community, Massachusetts, recognized by the US government. In October 2022, the group received special recognition from the Rhode Island House of Representatives for their devoted work in their local community. Overall, FOMA congratulates President-Elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai and expresses its optimism for a brighter future under his leadership.
