Liberia: Former Maryland County Senator Dan Morais Endorses Boakai

Former Maryland County Senator Dan Morais has officially endorsed Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai as the presidential candidate of the Unity Party. The endorsement ceremony, held in Morais' hometown of Big Town, was attended by prominent community members, chiefs, and elders of Harper District.

Speaking at the ceremony, Morais stated that his decision to support Boakai came after extensive consultations with both the CDC and UP at the national and county levels. He emphasized that Boakai's leadership qualities, integrity, and commitment to the welfare of the Liberian people were key factors in his endorsement—adding that his choice is based on the many developmental initiatives that were accomplished during the reign stay of the Unity Party from 2006 to 2017.

Having worked closely with Boakai during his time as the President of the Liberian Senate, Morais highlighted the positive impact he made on Maryland County, including attracting foreign direct investment in industries such as rubber and oil palm plantations.

He praised the Unity Party's track record of development in Maryland County, citing accomplishments such as infrastructure projects, the establishment of Tubman University, and improvements in education.

"As the President of the Liberian Senate, Ambassador Boakai worked hard and ensured that foreign direct investment came to Liberia that has a direct impact on the Maryland county, the Cavalla Rubber Cooperation, Maryland Oil Palm Plantation, and many others,” he said. “The Unity Party brought tangibles to Maryland, the pavement of the Harper to Kanweaken hard way, the establishment of the Tubman University, the renovation, and refurbishing of the Cape Palmas High School, the West Africa power poll, and many other initiatives.”

Morais expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting Boakai's bid for the presidency and called on his supporters to join him in ensuring Boakai's victory. He urged fellow Marylanders to prioritize development over regional solidarity and to vote for a candidate who can lead Liberia towards progress.

Ambassador John A. Ballout Sr., a Stewart of the Unity Party, accepted the endorsement on behalf of Boakai. He commended Morais for his initiative and stated that Marylanders should unite to secure a resounding victory for Boakai in the presidential runoff election. With just one day until the elections, Morais' endorsement has garnered attention, with political observers and supporters of the ruling party expressing surprise over the CDC's failure to secure his support, considering his significant support base and constituents.

He wondered why Marylanders voted for the CDC so massively in the October 10 Legislative and Presidential elections, when the CDC can't point at any tangibles in this ending six years of their tenure. “All the infrastructural development in the county today were all done by Unity Party,” he said while calling on his kinsmen to choose development over regional solidarity. “I agree these lines are all factors that politicians use doing election, but they can't help us but only give us the wrong leaders, thereby leaving us with serious problems,” he noted.
