Liberia: FLY to Launch ‘Vote Your Peace’ Initiative Campaign

The Federation of Liberia Youth (FLY) is to officially launch and present an initiative called “Vote your peace” initiative in Liberia.

It is a youth driven initiative that is designed to promote and inform a peaceful participation among young voters in the upcoming October 2023 general and presidential elections.

The initiative aims to empower youth to engage meaningfully in the electoral process and contribute to a peaceful and democratic future for Liberia.

And its activities will highlight a wide range of civil engagements awareness, stakeholder’s debates, and youth commitment to peace pledge, among others. The initiative will also cut across all counties with a huge online campaign as well.

Meanwhile, Fly calls on the youth of Liberia, its partners and all political actors to continue to reflect the roles played in dealing with the peace as we draw closer to October 10 elections.

“We frown against the constant use and manipulation of young people to cause violence and look forward to issue based engagements across all supporters and parties.”

FLY said in a release that they condemn the incident between the ruling CDC and UP in district #9. And call on all parties to take responsibility for their actions and stay committed to the Farmington Declaration.

According to FLY, they maintain their independence throughout and stand ready to support the cause of their youth agenda: “To organize and coordinate the youth population in Liberia with the view of promoting unity of purpose, patriotism, cooperation, collaboration and tolerance.

To promote the virtues of dedication to duty, sense of social justice, moral responsibility and respect for the rule of law and to seek, defend and protect the rights of Liberian Youth particularly the right to organize one- self, participate in decision – making and policy implementation processes.

However, Fly announces a three years grant received from USAID Conservation works Activity Project, Title protecting Liberia’s Future.

And Engaging Youth in Conservation and Sustainability project to implement Youth Conservation projects across three protected areas in Liberia to include: the east Nimba reserve, the Wetlands in Marshall, and the SAPO National Park.

The project aims to bridge the knowledge gap and build capacity of young people in Natural Resource Management and Environmental Governance. 

Its objectives are to increase awareness of protected areas and environmental sustainability among young people living in communities surrounding protected areas, and to organize stakeholder’s engagements between young people, community and stakeholders to discuss the importance of protected areas and their economic gains; to hold a national youth conference on natural resource management among others.

In conclusion, FLY welcomed its Deputy Secretary for program Mr. Samuel S. Kpator to Liberia, who has completed a study from Mandela Washington Fellowship. 

FLY also extended appreciation to the US Government and its flagship program for continuing to tap on the brilliance of young Liberians across.
