…. Man who murdered motorcyclist sheds light on the source of his deadly rage

James Cole Sumo, the 25-year-old man who hacked a motorcyclist to death with a cutlass last week, has said that the devil led him to commit the crime.

“I don’t know what came over me. It was the devil that fooled me into killing him,” Sumo told reporters during an interview on Wednesday, August 2, at the police station in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Police in Gbarnga, Bong County, arrested Sumo, charged him, and sent him to court for allegedly murdering Survivor Kamara, a motorcyclist.

Sumo, according to the police, murdered Kamara for his motorcycle and took it away. Sumo is said to have used a cutlass that nearly beheaded Kamara as they tussled over the motorcycle.

During the interview with journalists, the suspect claimed that his action was the work of the devil because he did not know the deceased from anywhere but hired him to take him from one place to another, stressing that the incident was unfortunate.

According to police, Sumo had earlier refused to cooperate with law enforcement officers until he was caught with the motorcycle in Negbala Town, where the incident occurred.

“Suspect [James Cole Sumo] overpowered the deceased after a prolonged tussle over the motorcycle, inflicting a deep cutlass wound on Kamara’s neck in the process,” said Fasu Sheriff, the Commander of the Bong County Police Detachment.

“The suspect was arrested on July 31 with the stolen bike and had earlier refused to cooperate with law enforcement officers after he had been identified as a suspect.”

Meanwhile, a fifteen-man coroner's jury reported that Kamara died due to a severe cut on the back of his neck.

James explained that he was frustrated by his relative, who he lives with, for not giving him his money, amounting to L$57,000, which he says he worked for.

According to him, he was encouraged by his uncle to go and dig gold in Grand Gedeh County, where he earned the mentioned amount; yet, his uncle advised him to give the money to his (uncle’s) wife for safe-keeping, because his plan was to buy a motorcycle.

He further said that prior to the July 26th celebration, he requested his money, but unfortunately, he was given L$5,000, which he described as frustrating.
