Liberia Chamber of Commerce Announces New Secretary-General

The Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC), Liberia's oldest representative business association, announces that Catherine Karmo has joined the LCC as its Secretary-General. 

Catherine will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the LCC, including staff recruitment, performance management and development. In addition, she will help advise the President and members of the Executive Council on important developments on matters of the economy at the domestic and international levels. 

“I’m excited for Catherine to join the LCC,” said Cllr. Oswald Tweh, President of the LCC. “Her experience from working with both state and non-state institutions and actors on a broad range of private sector issues will enable her to ably represent the LCC and espouse its mission and role to policymakers, partners and businesses.” 

Catherine joins the LCC from the Governance Commission, where she served as the Program Manager for Grants Coordination and Resource Mobilization. She brings a wealth of experience from working on a broad range of private sector development, governance, policy reform and gender issues at the national, regional, continental, and global levels pertaining to agribusiness, poverty and inequality, human and institutional capacity development, political and economic transformation. Catherine holds a M.A. in International Relations from the Ibrahim Babangida Graduate School of International Studies, and a B.A. in Sociology with emphasis in Political Science from the University of Liberia.

The LCC is Liberia's oldest and most representative institution advocating the business interest of a very diverse private sector, representing over 300 companies and business associations.  The LCC is also the representative of Employers under the tripartite arrangement with the Government of Liberia and the Liberia Labor Congress.
