Liberia: BlueCrest Launches Annual Inter-School Football Tournament

BlueCrest University's “LMLG Football Cup”, a football competition with 16 schools vying for the trophy, has officially begun.
Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Indian Ambassador to Liberia, inaugurated the tournament last weekend at the Invincible Sports Park last weekend.
The tournament, which is a component of BlueCrest's corporate social responsibility, aims to give back to the community and, more importantly, is done so with the intention of integrating its goals with the government of Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda.
The annual Inter-School football tournament seeks to give the opportunity to “all aspiring school children to showcase their spirit of talent” on the football pitch.
“Liberia has given the world one of the greatest football players, George Weah, who is currently President of the Republic of Liberia and a great inspiration to Liberians, particularly young people.
“As I open this tournament, I would like to remind the organizers and the teams that winning and losing are both a part of the game and that even when we play at our best on the field, we always maintain sportsmanship and fair play. At the end of the day, our fair play is remembered more than our success and achievements,” Amb. Yadav said.
The tournament is currently in the group stage; the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will take place at the Invincible Sports Park on November 10, November 12, and November 14, respectively.
The winners of the competition will be awarded a trophy, and a cash prize of US$2,000, and the runners-up will receive a cash prize of US$1,000 along with a runners-up trophy.
Among other awards are the golden boot for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), the Best Goalkeeper, the Highest Goal scorer, and the Fair Play team.
