Liberia: Are Endorsements Sincere or for Selfish Gains?

— A call to vote wisely

By Rev. Dr. Slewion Lewis

As we gear up as a nation for our presidential runoff election, many political parties and individuals are endorsing either of the two parties, a democratic tenet that we all, as Liberians, should embrace and welcome.

Endorsement, which is the act of giving one's public approval and support to someone or something, should be done with sincerity and implicit confidence in the person to perform the task and not because of any personal gains.

As these barrages of endorsements are being carried out, the question is: Are these endorsements really sincere, or are they for selfish gains?

Are parties or individuals endorsing individuals or parties because of their love for Liberia or because of their love for the person or party?

Are they endorsing a party because the party’s manifesto aligns with their vision and dream for a better Liberia or because of their personal interests?

Are political parties or individuals endorsing a candidate or party because of what they stand to gain or because of Mama Liberia?

Are our politicians endorsing UP or CDC because of their track records or because they just dislike the other?

My fellow compatriots, are our political parties and individual politicians endorsing President Weah or former Vice President Boakai because of experience, competence, integrity, and the ability to do the job they are vying for, or because of what they will get at the end?

While it is true that we all have our inalienable rights to choose the party or individual we want to lead us as a nation, let us do so with love for country and sincerity, with the country’s best interest above our individual interests.

Let us also exercise this national duty with soberness and deep reflection, along with consultation with God through sincere prayer.

Remember, the decision we make on November 14 will determine the course of our beloved country for the next six years.

THEREFORE, LET US VOTE WISELY AND VOTE  LIBERIA’S INTEREST ABOVE PARTY’S AND INDIVIDUALS'.

LONG LIVE OUR SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY!
