The Amputee Lone Star on Thursday, November 25, departed the country for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for the 2021 Amputee Football African Nations Cup.

According to Sports journalist Sylvester Tamba, the delegation comprises 22 persons and is headed by Deputy Sports Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kesseley Kanneh.

This year’s edition of the competition, hosted in Tanzania, is expected to kick off on Saturday, November 27 and end on December 5, 2021.

According to the fixtures, Liberia are due to hit the ground running with their first match against debutants Ethiopia on Saturday, November 27, before continuing with their remaining fixtures against The Gambia, another debutant, on November 28 and Cameroon on November 29.

A total of 15 teams have been drawn into four groups of four, with the exception of Group D with just three teams.

Liberia, record holders (three times), will be chasing their fourth after finishing as 3rd Place winners in the previous edition held in Angola.

During the previous edition, the amputee Lone Star progressed to the semifinals after collecting seven points from five games in the six-nation tournament, but lost against host and now defending champions Angola in the semis.

However, they could not afford to return empty-handed as they went on to beat Tanzania 2-1 on Oct 11, 2019, at the NAC Benguela Stadium to clinch the Bronze medal in the Nations Cup.
