Liberia: Amputee African Nations Cup: Liberia Edge Closer to Fourth Title

Amputee Lone Star Players celebrate after their 3-1 win against Cameroon .

Liberia Amputee football national team has easily sailed through to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Cup of  African Nations for Amputees Football (CANAF) in Tanzania following a 3-1 win against Cameroon on Tuesday.

Two goals from Darlington Singbe, along with Matthew Joe’s lone goal helped the Amputee Lone Star to come from a goal down to edge closer to achieving their goals-to capture the title for the record fourth time.

Liberia grasped their first win on Monday after thrashing debutants The Gambia 4-0, thanks to Matthew Joe’s hat trick and a lone goal from Morilai Boakai. The Amputee Lone Star were paired in Group C along with The Gambia, Cameroon, and Ethiopia, but the number of teams was reduced to three due to the absence of Ethiopia.

Striker Matthew Joe, 24, is the top goal scorer among the current breed of players after scoring nine goals in nine matches for the team since making his debut during the previous nations cup in Angola.

Liberia finished top of Group C with six points from two games. They are followed by Cameroon that finished second with three points.

They will face Morocco later today in the quarterfinals.
