Liberia: American NGO Appeals to Pres. Weah to Intervene to have Properties Recovered

The United Charities Foundation (UCF), a US-based NGO, has appealed to President George M. Weah to have its properties recovered.

Cllr. Esther N. Tubman, the former missionary and founder of the philanthropist group, accused two government officials of wrongfully taking its properties away, craving the intervention of the President. 

In a press statement issued in Monrovia today, the UCF’s Board, whose primary works have been focused on donating to the needed poor, accused Eric F Nagbe, an accountant, and Trokon Kpui, Minister of State Without Portfolio, of engaging in unlawful actions. 

“Our properties were attacked and demolished by two powerful people in the country,” Molley P. Kamara, a member of the UCF Board and head of the Monrovia office, said in the press statement. 

“First, last year Eric F Nagbe, an accountant, invaded a prime 6th street property previously used as a gas station.  He demolished the structures and uprooted the fuel tanks.  Cllr Tubman was born on that property over 80 years ago and remained in the family until Mr. Nagbe forcibly seized it. That matter is in court.” 

“Last Friday, Trokon Kpui, the Minister of State Without Portfolio, with the aid of state police, invaded another property located directly across the street from ERA Supermarket. He demolished the concrete fence and re-fenced the land including the spare parts store of the caretaker with zinc."

"This property has been part of the family portfolio for more than 50 years ago and the source of its ownership can be traced to President Stephen A Benson in 1868. The primary focus of the charity is caring for orphans.  In addition to donations, the primary asset of the charity is an enviable portfolio of real estate owned by Cllr Esther Tubman, an octogenarian currently based in NY. We are therefore appealing to the President to use his good offices to intervene in order to have our properties returned to us.”
