Liberia: Abusive Boyfriend Kills Girlfriend, Commits Suicide

Grace Menlor (left) moved out of a dwelling she shared with her abusive boyfriend Preston Dolo, who killed her in her own apartment.

A 24-year-old lady was murdered by her boyfriend whose lifeless body was also found near the deceased.

The victim, Grace Menlor was in a relationship with Preston Dolo, a commercial motorcyclist who lives in Ganta but after a few years of living together, she moved out of their home last year as a result of “some misunderstandings”, friends say.

Grace’s murder, which shocked the commercial city of Ganta, Nimba County, was carried out by Dolo, the  28-year-old commercial motorcyclist, before turning on himself.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday, April 11, in Gleeyelu Community, where Grace moved after she left Preston.

Grace’s lifeless body was found lying in the pool of blood with wounds in the right corner of her chest and the lower part of her left breast, while the alleged perpetrator was also lying in a pool of blood and a deep cut on the lower part of his belly, with his intestines floating out, but he was still breathing.

She was killed in her  bedroom, a day after she had gone out to spend a night at a friend's place,  according to an eyewitness who seems to know a lot about the deceased.

According to an eyewitness, since December 2021, the late Grace had been living in the Gleeyelu Community up to the time of her demise, having left her boyfriend in Boe Community where they once lived together.

But Dolo continued to visit her at her new residence.

Despite the misunderstandings, the couple was always seen together in the same community where she lived, according to Rena Nyanquee, an eyewitness and an associate of Grace’s.

Rena noted that during  Grace’s graduation last month, Preston unmercifully beat on her at the graduation party, which further increased the tension between them.

Rena explained that since that day,  she stopped seeing Preston in the community.

Surprisingly, however, at about 6:30 a.m. on April 11, after Grace came out and entered her room, some minutes later, Rena heard her crying and calling out to her, saying, "Rena, Preston is killing me."

“Grace told me last night she was going to sleep at her friend’s house last night (April 10) and when she returned by 6:30 this morning and entered her room, I heard her crying and calling me that Preston is killing her,” she said.

“But when I got to the door, it was locked from inside and I went to call the community people for help,” Rena added. “When we came, at last, the door was still closed and there was nothing like a scuffle or any sound inside anymore, it was because of this we called the police."

When the police appeared and opened the door, Grace was lying dead in the pool of blood with wounds in the right corner of her chest and the lower part of her left breast, while the perpetrator was also lying in a pool of blood and a deep cut in the lower part of his belly, with his intestines floating out, but he was still breathing.

Police immediately rushed him to the Ganta United Methodist Hospital, where he later died.

According to the 15-man coroner jury, the alleged perpetrator used a kitchen knife to commit the act.

The late Grace Menlor was a graduate of the Youth Academy High School and also a member of the Nimba County kickball team.

She hailed from Karnplay, Gbehlay Geh District, while the late Preston Dolo also hailed from Kpei Tiara in the Yarpea Mah Administrative District.

Grace Menlor's body being carried away to Karnplay for burial.

Meanwhile, the body of the late Grace had been turned over to her family, who moved the body to her town of Karnplay. The body of the alleged perpetrator, Preston Dolo is still in the hands of the government awaiting the family.

The gruesome death of the young lady brought Ganta to a standstill, as hundreds of sympathizers from across the city flocked to the scene of the incident.

Similarly, in  March 2017, a lady and her ward were gruesomely killed by her boyfriend in her rented apartment in Ganta.

The two victims were found three days later, decomposed in their apartment with the little girl’s head upside down in the drum of water that was in the bathroom.

The police later arrested the main perpetrator, Exodus Waymah, and his accomplice and sent them to court, where the main perpetrator was convicted and sentenced to 75 years imprisonment, and the accomplice was sentenced to five years.
