Liberia: 9-yr-old Rape Victim’s Parents Cry for Help

... “She’s finding it difficult since she was raped. Our only daughter is dying and we are hopeless; we don’t even know what to do,” the victim’s parents indicated.

Parents of a nine-year-old rape victim, residents of Zone 7, Pleebo City, Maryland County are appealing for humanitarian assistance for their daughter who was raped allegedly by a man believed to be in his early 30s.

The parents of the child, Anthony W. Nimely and Cecelia Nyema, in an interview with the Daily Observer, disclosed that since their little daughter was raped on June 24, she has not been able to walk by herself, despite having received medical treatments from various medical facilities including the Cavalla Rubber Corporation Hospital in Pleebo City, and the J.J. Dossen Hospital in Harper Maryland County.

“We are really worried about our daughter's deplorable health condition. We want people to help us because since June 24, when this happened to her, the child’s condition has gotten very bad and we need assistance from people,” the parents said.

According to the family, their 9-year-old daughter was raped while home lonely. She had just returned from school and was resting, the family said.

The family added that when they noticed that the little girl wasn’t talking, they immediately took her to a hospital, “where the medical report indicated that she was raped.”

“After the medical pronouncement in Maryland County that my daughter was raped, she, despite her deplorable condition, explained to us how she was raped and even called the name of the individual who allegedly did the act,” the family disclosed.

The man, identified as 33-year-old Robert Toe, was arrested and sent to Fish Town Prison, River Gee County, as a pretrial detainee awaiting court trial.

Meanwhile, the parents say they are in dire need of help from the government of Liberia, humanitarian agencies, and philanthropists.  They are calling on the First Lady, Clar Marie Weah, to kindly intervene for proper treatment of their daughter.

“We have been taking her for treatment, but things are not working out positively. Her condition is worrisome and painful.  We want to use this opportunity to call on the wife of President George M. Weah to please help my daughter.

“She’s finding it difficult since she was raped. Our only daughter is dying and we are hopeless; we don’t even know what to do,” the victim’s parents indicated.
