Liberia: 2022 CAF Interclub Preliminaries: Watanga, LISCR Opponents Revealed

In the CAF Confederation Cup, LISCR FC were drawn against Ivorian club Sporting Club de Gagnoa.

Liberia representatives’ opponents for the 2022 CAF interclub competitions have been revealed, following the conduct of the draw on Tuesday, August 9, in Cairo, Egypt.

In the CAF Champions League, Watanga have been paired against Nigerian champions Rivers United.

Rivers will host the first leg between September 9-11 before traveling to Liberia for the return leg between September 16-18.

It is still unclear whether both Watanga and LISCR FC will use the Antoinette Tubman Stadium or the SKD for their home matches.

The aggregate winners from the match between Watanga and Rivers will face champions league  defending champions, Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco for a place in the group stages.

Rivers progressed to the second round of the previous edition after defeating Young Africans of Tanzania 2-0 on aggregate. Unfortunately, they bowed out of the competition after losing 2-1 to Sudan’s Al Hilal.

They dropped into the playoff round of the CAF confederation cup but also lost against Al Masry of Egypt on away goal rules after both teams settled to a 2-2 draw.

Unlike Rivers, Watanga don’t have a past record in the CAF Champions League, as this will mark their debut in the competition.

A total of 52 teams were drawn in the first round of the Champions League which will see the 26 winners progressing to the second round to join the six teams that received a bye.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, LISCR FC were drawn against Ivorian club Sporting Club de Gagnoa.

“We’ll play at home before going away for the return leg. The first leg is scheduled between 9th-11th September, while the return leg is scheduled between 16th-18th September. The winner of the tie will face Algerian side JS Saoura in the second round,” LISCR posted on its official page.
