Runway Liberia, an international fashion event that aims to put Liberian fashion practitioners on the world stage, has called for fashion designers, makeup artists, hairstylists and others to participate in the second edition of the event.

Junda Morris-Kennedy, founder of Liberia Fashion Marketing, the chief organizer of the event, said she was inspired to host the event because of her love for the creative sector.

“I became intrigued with fashion when I attended the Louise Nelson Sewing School in Paynesville. Ever since, my love for fashion has increased; coupled with my experience working in the international fashion industry as store manager and visual merchandiser for fashion brands like The Deb Shop, J.Riggins, The Limited.

“I believe that if worldwide opportunity is given to this emerging fashion industry, we can bring economic growth to Liberia,” Madam Kennedy explained.

She said Runway Liberia is an event created to encourage Liberia’s creative industry to take advantage of AGOA (African Growth Opportunities Act – provides duty-free access to the US market for qualifying apparel exports from Africa) as well as being able to showcase their creativity to international buyers and consumers.

Madam Kennedy, who is also the World Fashion Week (WFW) representative for Liberia, said there are benefits awaiting fashion practitioners who apply, including marketing and branding of their products.

“They are going to showcase their couture to a top International audience and major media houses as well as participating in a fashion seminar,” Madam Kennedy noted.

She said it is very important that Liberian fashion practitioners be encouraged to seize the opportunities in the growth of the African fashion industry, and position Liberia to become a hotspot for the fashion industry, from designers to makeup artists and many more, because our they have the skills to do it.
