Miss Liberia 2009-2010, Shu-rina Rose Weah was reported dead on Tuesday, September 16, just a fortnight after the death of her elder sister, Toose Sieanyene Yuoh.  The cause of death of either sister is not yet confirmed, although friends who posted condolences on Wiah’s Facebook page are desperately seeking answers to this very question.  Other sources suggest Wiah had been sickly over the past year, and that the cause of death might not be Ebola.

Ms. Weah, who hails from Grand Bassa County, studied Public Administration & Management at the African Methodist Episcopal University in Monrovia, Liberia.  She was the founder and executive director of “New Hope for Young Women," an organization that focuses on encouraging young and single mothers without support, and helping them to obtain a better education.  She died at age 27.

Toose Yuoh, Shu-rina’s elder sister, posted on her facebook page that she (Toose) was married on May 7, 2014 and died four months later, on September 1.

Shu-rina and Toose are survived by their mother, Rev. Mot. Rosie Dillon Wiah and two brothers, Joseph F. Wiah and Oswald K. Wiah.

On Tuesday, friends and loved ones extolled and recalled a wonderful, beautiful, life gone too soon.  “I'm so torn right now. I just learned of the death of Shu-rina Wiah former Miss Liberia 2008/2009. I cannot believe it. Very young and smart, may her soul rest in perfect peace,” Barkue Tubman wrote. Tubman, who produced the Miss Liberia pageant the year Shu-rina was crowned, remembers her as “determined and focused, smart and beautiful. Working with her was actually easy because she was not confrontational but was a very strong young woman.”

Here’s how friends remembered the late beauty:

Edna Snyder Sackor: Shu-rina was a determined and confident young woman who believed in herself no matter her size. She was down to earth, friendly and God fearing.

Bishop Eli K. Chebo: She was not my friend but a daughter n sister to me, down to earth and respectful.

Vivian Neejay Innis: Shu-rina had a special place in my heart. She was like a little sister, friend and a family to me. She was full of life, fashionable, classy and had so many beautiful characteristic. She always carried herself as a super star.

Patrice Juah: Remembered hers as being promising with a vibrant soul.

Marconi Jones Wheeler: All kisses for my Sweetest cousin ever Miss. Shu-rina  Wiah… I must say to you the honor and pride you brought me was total Divinity from God. Even at my wedding you were the pride that I longed for cause you stood with me in everything like.
