Although Liberian R&b artist David Mel, the Melody Maker, married his girlfriend and “Internet chat friend of five years,” Evelyn Gee Mell, months ago, he is only revealing it now.
He did so at HottFm 107.9 over the weekend.
Mell said the ceremony was a secret, even to the guests, who were made up of his wife’s children and a handful of relatives.
“I didn’t make it public because it was a special moment that I wanted to experience quietly with my family. It had nothing to do with me getting papers (to immigrate to the US) or staying in America, because my wife and I met over the Internet long before we met in person. Even though I dated other women during our chatting days, she remained in my corner and a true friend through it all, my accident and so on. So I married her because she is my best friend, and I love her,” he shared during a phone interview.
Putting a nail on the coffin of all the rumors of his sexuality and his so-called womanizing ways, The Melody Maker chose an exotic but quiet location and tied the knot with his true companion.
Mell said he is satisfied with the way his life turned out, and thanks all his fans, who have been patient with him through his career, urging them to get copies of his new singles: “My Everything” and “Jehovah.”
