There’s a lot going on in town this weekend. But if you are looking for an event that will be well worth your time (and money), and to get you in the Christmas mood, then head over to the Royal Grand Hotel in Sinkor for “A Season of Giving: Put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas”. It’s actually a fun-fair event, full great entertainment and gifts and other goodies for sale for the entire family.
The event is produced in partnership with NuEra Inc, Royal Grand Hotel, Alley Printing Press and the Daily Observer, to raise funds in support of the Rock of Divine Children’s Home and Academy, an orphanage located in Paynesville, opposite the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex.
In an interview, program organizers Helen Eid Harris, head of Royal Grand Hotel and Robena Lewis Vincent, a marketing executive and radio show host, explained how the idea for the event came about. “The hotel has been supporting the Rock of Divine Children’s Home and Academy by setting aside a certain amount from each purchase made at the Café Royale Express, a restaurant in the lobby, to be donated to the Academy,” they said. “But there is a need for classrooms at the orphanage. Right now, there are six classes to a single room in the school that runs from Pre-K thru 11th grade. So we thought to have an event to highlight their situation and get the community involved in the process.”
Highlights of the event will include traditional Liberian folklore, dancing and games for children, arts and crafts, clothing, as well as snacks and other exciting goodies for sale. Guests will have an opportunity to interact with children from the orphanage as well. The all-day event will be broadcast live on Nubian FM 96.7, featuring DJ Eddie F.
