LFA Awards Ceremony Pushed to October 2

LFA MVP prize vehicle for 2021 league season: one each for the male and female categories

The Liberia Football association has postponed its 2020/21 Awards night from August 28 to October 2, 2021.

The decision was reached by the Executive Committee during its meeting on August 2. According to a communication sent to clubs regarding decisions reached at the meeting, the LFA said the ceremony was postponed in “adherence with health regulations and feedback from the Ministry of Health."

After nominating their choices, coaches, captains and accredited journalists were expected to begin casting their votes this month, but will now have to wait for a new date.

The awards, which are sponsored by Doxxbet-Liberia and Orange-Liberia, was officially launched on June 18 with the unveiling of two new Kia sport-utility vehicles (SUV) as prizes for the Most Valuable Players in the male and female categories.

Orange-Liberia, as official sponsor of the Orange national league, provided an additional L$2.5 million as support towards the awards.   

In August of 2020, the LFA and Doxxbet-Liberia signed a three-year deal, valued at US$100,000, subject to renewal, to sponsor the LFA awards. 

The prizes for this year include most valuable players (MVPs), highest goal scorers, best defenders, best goalkeepers, best coaches, best referees, best sports reporters and fair play teams in the men’s and women’s divisions.

Others are best print and electronic media and social media coverage.

The MVPs in the men and women’s divisions will receive a car plus L$150,000 respectively.

The highest goal scorer in the first division will receive L$300,000 while the highest goal scorers in the second and women’s divisions will receive L$200,000 respectively. 

The best defenders, best goalkeepers, best coaches, best referees, best sports reporters and fair play teams in the men and women’s divisions will receive L$100,000 respectively.
