Liberia: House Approves 2021 Special Supplemental Budget of US$13 Million

The House of Representatives on Thursday has unanimously voted to pass a supplemental budget to the 2021 Special Budget in the amount of US$13,498,000.

The approved supplemental budget of US$13,498,000 has put the total of the Special 2021 Budget to US$361,407,700.00.

The House's decision during the 11th Day Special Sitting,  for the consideration and enactment of the supplemental budget was based on a communication from President George M. Weah to address pressures of national issues.

The trunk of the supplemental budget is to stabilize the price of rice across the country, known as the Rice Stabilization Fund, to the tune of US$7m followed by a Contingency transfer of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning of US$3,998,000.00;.

Others are the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) US$500,000; Executive Mansion renovation, US$1.5 million and the LRA  - Revenue Enhancement,  US$500,000.

The House has forwarded the approved 2021 Special  Supplemental Budget to the Liberian Senate for concurrence. Meanwhile, the House has also voted on Thursday to summon the leadership of the Fendell Community to meet the Leadership of the House on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

The House's action was in response to a communication from Montserrado County Electoral District #1 Rep. Lawrence Morris, bringing to the attention of the House of Representatives a grave situation that affected citizens relating to a massive demolition exercise carried out by the previous administration in Fendell, Montserrado County.
