Freeport FC Commence Pre-season Training

Freeport FC has begun pre-season preparations ahead of the 2021/22 league season that is expected to officially kick off on 31 October.

Pre-season training is one of the essential components of a team’s preparation for a new league season. Players will need to be at peak fitness for the season ahead. The training also allows players to build solid fitness foundations, improve technical ability, and ultimately ensure optimum performance. Players of the team were pictured in one of their training sessions, jugging and doing fitness drills at the Tusa Field in Gardnersville.

Among the players were two of the club's new signings, attacker Gibson Freeman and goalkeeper Vina Smith. Freeman joined Freeport on a long-term deal from Stages FC that was relegated to the 3rd division, while goalkeeper Smith joined the “Go Green” boys on the same long-term deal from Nimba FC that also suffered relegation from the LFA first division league.

Other strange players have also seen training with the team and are said to be undergoing justification to join the team. Freeport FC will be looking to make a difference in the upcoming league season after losing form midway through the previous league season.

The ‘Go Green” boys climaxed the 2020/21 league season with a 2-1 win against Nimba United in their final game at the North Star Sports Stadium in Mount Barclay. The win saw them finish in the 7th position on the league table with 30 points from 22 games (8 wins, 6 Draws, and 8 defeats). They will commence the new league season with an away fixture against traditional club Mighty Barrolle at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
