The DKT Liberia team (International) has commended the outgoing Ambassador of Sweden to Liberia, Madam Ingrid Wetterqvist, for her exceptional leadership and support during her tours of duty.

DKT International is a registered, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to focus the power of social marketing on some of the largest countries with the greatest needs for Family Planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, and abortion care. Around the globe, DKT has empowered women and men by promoting their sexual and reproductive health rights—ensuring access to education about family planning methods and products.

The colorful event held at a resort in Mamba Point on Thursday, July 15, 2021, was well attended by some senior staff of DKT Liberia and the Embassy of Sweden.

In a statement from Mr. Antonio Cazares Turcott, DKT Liberia Country Manager at a farewell event, praised Ambassador Wetterqvist for the level of support given to him and his team in providing Sexual and Reproductive Health services and products to Liberians, especially young women. The statement further described the Embassy of Sweden as an important and supportive partner to DKT Liberia.

Mr. Jacob Sendolo, the DKT Liberia Finance Manager, stated that the farewell reception was organized to celebrate Ambassador Wetterqvist during her duty of tours in Liberia and wish her well in the next chapter of her life.

“We are here on this memorable day to wish the best of luck and farewell to our Excellency Ambassador Ingrid Wetterqvist. We are touched at this moment after your incredible journey of four years full of achievements and learning in Liberia. For all you did, for whom you are, your Liberian friends will be forever grateful,” Sendolo noted.

DKT Liberia Country Manager statement continued, “Ambassador Ingrid, you can be confident that with the collaboration between DKT Liberia and the Embassy of Sweden, more Liberians have access to sexual and reproductive health services and products. We are glad that we have the same ideals. We want to applaud you for the progress made through the Swedish Development Cooperation Policy. Today, we can all be proud that in the last demographic health survey of 2019-2020, Liberia increased the modern contraceptive prevalence rate from 19 to 24,” the statement added.

In response, the honoree expressed gratitude to the DKT Liberia family for the honor and great services they are offering to Liberians, especially when it comes to providing family planning to young girls and women in Liberia.

Ambassador Wetterqvist thanked everyone who supported her during her time in the country and wished Liberia and its people very well going forward.
